Duplicate files question.

I have CCCleaner Prof latest vs.

Searching for duplicate files:

On my C: drive I have a tremendous amount of duplicate files.  I have as many as from 2 to 6 and they all show on C: with the same amount of MB and date created.

I don't know why the same file would be on 2 to 6 different places on the same date and time.

What do I do as I don't know which one would be proper to delete.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use CCCleaner often and love it but afraid to delete any of the duplicates off my C drive.  I have deleted duplicate files that I found on my spare drives but sort of afraid to do it on my C: (main) drive.

Here is example of one duplicate file I found:

gdiplus.dll   C:Program files/cyberlink/photo director  1.;64 MB  1/22/2014  12.07.42 AM

gdiplus.dll   C:/Program F8ile (x86)/cberlink/Power2...   1.64MB 1/22/2014 12.07.42 AM

Thanks

that is really only a question that you can answer with any confidence.

afterall, it is your PC, and if you can't decide, how are we, strangers, going to know. :)

if the duplicate files were personal, like .jpg, or .txt or .doc etc, then somehow you have put/copied them in multiple locations.

the example you gave is a system file, and if some installation process put the same named file in different locations, it did that for a reason - so the program would work.

remove the 'duplicate' (which isn't) and the program will not work.

you have hit the limitation of any dup file finder.

it'll find all the files you want, nut how to tell which can safely be removed - the 64 million dollar question.

Backup now & backup often.
It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.
Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
