Sorry if this question has been asked before, but here goes.

I installed the free version of CCleaner on my win vista 32 bit machine a few days ago.

I have a WiFi network.

My wife cannot log into the Wifi network since the installation of CCleaner.  I have used the router network/security key that we all use for access.

She is running win7, 64 bit.

I worked on her machine until I realized it has to be CCleaner that is preventing her from access to the network.

I cannot find an answer on here or anywhere on the web, so I am asking here.

I opened the CCleaner program and do see a check box for "network passwords" under the heading of Cleaner, (left side pane with broom) then "Windows" then the sub menu titled "Windows Explorer".

I was unsure to check this box, as it warned that I would lose all network passwords.

All I want is to be able to use the WiFi network here at home on more than one PC.

One note is both of our smart phones have not been affected and are all connected to the network via WiFi.

Thanks in Advance.

John

G'day Ghost Rider,

after you installed CC on her PC, you then ran it?  (just checking as you don't mention it)

did you also run the registry cleanup?

what CC version?

have you tried using an ethernet cable between the wife's pc and the modem?

and just to tick off the dumb stuff, Windows 10 has wifi still turned on?, Airplane mode is Off?, her wireless adapter is not disabled?, if a laptop is the wifi switch in the On position? (if it has one)

Backup now & backup often.

Thanks for responding Sir/Moderator!

I did not install CCleaner on her PC.  Just mine.    No, I have not physically connected her PC to the WiFi router.  But I can if required.  Hard wired connections are not available anywhere except for this home office.

She could not use her PC  (after I installed the cleaner on my machine) as it was asking for a network password which I do have, but will not accept.

We use it so our grand children can use the web and email.   So it was working and access was allowed to anyone with the code/password/security key.  Just as you would for any WiFi connection.

I need to know how to give permission or to allow other devices to join the local/home network.

Does CCleaner prevent other devices and require my permission to log onto my home network and how do I give permission or allow others access?

I am very impressed at how this software has made my computer much faster.  I am learning how to use the software, as its new to me.

However, I am concerned with downloading and installing the "cleaner" on my wife's or other network users as they are not computer literate.

I just want to get them online again. Email and web.

Your help is much appreciated and I look forward to your help resolving what probably is quite simple.

Like I said, there is a "network password" option on the main home page.  I'm just not sure if I should check that box.

Best Regards

John

No, don't tick that Network Passwords box, I've never needed CC to delve into those areas.

OK, so CC has not been installed or run on the wife's PC, only on yours, and since then, she cannot access the wifi network.  But every other device still can.

That would suggest that the problem is isolated to her unit and not related to you running CC on yours.

CC only has access to the unit it is being run on and it does not, indeed cannot, log into your modem and screw things up.

So sadly it is probably just a bad coincidence.

what is her AV software?, if it has a firewall, temporarily disable it (hell, even the whole AV software) to see if that helps.

in the off chance the wifi password you think it is, actually isn't, log onto the modem/router and look up what it really is.

have you rebooted the modem and her laptop?  (it's an oldie but a goodie)

And how did you go with the last sentence, starting with and just to tick off the dumb stuff?...

I think your right about the issue residing with her PC.

Coincidence could very well be the answer.

She has been gone for a few weeks and was with our daughter and grandchildren.  Teenagers!!!

I had other issues with her PC today and I am now working on getting her computer to work.  Just to F'en work.

I will report back with my findings.  But I am on board with your assessment.  Its her PC not the Ccleaner.

Much thanks!

You could try something simple, which can sometimes fix things easily:

1. Make sure her computer is turned off.

2. Unplug the modem power cord.

3. Plugin the modem power cord.

4. Start her computer to see if it now has a WiFi connection.

If the above fails:

Call your ISP and ask them to look at your modems settings to make sure it's configured properly. I once had to do this when a laptop wasn't accepted by my DSL modem.
