Win10 and CCleaner

I've just done a scan and clean on my Win 10. It supposedly cleaned IE, but then when I went back to do another scan, it showed the IE files were still there.

I then went into Control Panel and deleted history in IE and went back and did another CCleaner scan and it showed the same files in IE.

How do I get rid of the IE history files, which CC doesn't seem to be deleting?

have you tried it with the newly released v5.26 version?

I've always used the SLIM version on my Win 7 and now on my Win 10. I now have 525 version on both of these computers, but the CCleaner is performing very slow on both (on the Win 10 as I mentioned in my first post) and now in the Win 7 it keeps delaying on IE History. And then it will state "IE skipped," and then I will find it hard to open IE again unless I reboot.

And so it is causing me a lot of wasted time and energy. And at my age (81) I don't have much extra of either.

What has happened to CCleaner during past few months? After many, many years of use, I think I will have to look for another 'cleaner.'

(What is difference between Slim and Installer, and others? I am not computer knowledgeable and that is why I have always used the Slim version.)

Alice,

on this page; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds you'll see three download options.  (actually right now, at time of writing there are only two, the Slim will be there soon)

there is the normal installer, the Slim build and the Portable build.

the normal installer has the CCleaner program plus a bundled offering of Chrome, this keeps the standard version free.

the Slim build is the standard installer but without the Chrome offering.  but it gets delayed by about a week after any new version is released before you are able to download it.

lastly, the Portable build, same program as the standard, but again without the Chrome offering and it doesn't actually get,. or need, installing.  you just run it from where you want (once unzipped).

if you are still on v5.25, then get v5.26, but I doubt it will help your IE issues.

you can search on the forums for other threads covering this issue but to boil it down, Microsoft has changed how it stores its temporary internet files, and so Piriform has had to change how it clean said files.

now users are reporting either slow IE cleaning, lack of IE cleaning or IE skipped cleaning.

if yours is the slow issue, sadly it may be a case of it is what it is, until Microsoft or Piriform changes things.

don't forget, you always clean IE crap from within IE itself.

then there's solutions like only running IE in private mode, so crap never accumulates, or getting the Pro version of CC and have it clean IE as you close IE.

or maybe even ditch IE in lieu of another browser, say Chrome or Firefox.

Is that the Tools/Internet Options at top of IE and then Browser History Delete on General Tab?

I've done that but when I do run CC, it still shows files in IE History. If I deleted, why would it still show in CC scan?

Yes, that's the right spot.

As to why history still shows, I can only speculate.

How much time has passed between cleaning history in IE and running CC?

What are the chances IE hasn't cleaned everything?

Perhaps the stuff seen in CC doesn't get cleaned by IE?, hence the need for CC.

Maybe IE has cleaned itself properly but what you are still seeing are the other MS products that still use the same locations, like, Skype, Office, Defender, Windows Live Mail ( and the list goes on).

A test would be to start the PC in Safe Mode, disconnect from the web, run IE cleanup from within IE, then run CC and see what it finds.

The list of files found would indicate what they are and where they came from if you want to provide a screenshot.

Just installed the Slim 5.26 and did a scan on the Win 7 and it was still very slow doing the delete of IE History. I'll have to see if any change when I install the 5.26 on my Win 10 and then run a scan.

What is wrong with CC and downloading 5.26 on Win 10? Each time I click on the download Slim version, it takes me back to the page to indicate which of the three I want. I click on Slim and then it goes to download page, when I click on Download, it takes me back to the previous page. Over and over again!!!

P.S. My neighbors are using different cleaners and say they are having no problems with their cleaners and IE. Wonder why it is just CC having the IE problem?

If the standard version of CC is slow cleaning IE, then so will the Slim and Portable builds.

the cleaning process doesn't change, just the Chrome offering.

the Slim download link seems to be working now.

just tried and got it from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

they occasionally have this issue that seems to auto-correct itself as soon as someone posts on here that is doesn't work - very suspicious :)

as to your neighbours cleaning IE, who can say, one guess is that cleaner doesn't do what CC does - either for better or worse!

for me personally, IE is a dogs breakfast.  it's the oldest and most unsecured browser, simply because of it age.

even MS will eventually replace it with Edge.

most people have ditched it eons ago if you can believe these stats; http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/default.asp

I used CCleaner v5.26 on my mother's Win10 laptop a couple of hours ago, it had no slowness to it whatsoever cleaning IE and Edge compared to the previous version which was very slow.
