Wipe Free MFT Space?

Hello, I love your CCleaner product and thank you for doing such a great job. However it would be great if you could provide more details regarding new features that are extremely vague. I never even heard of "MFT" before, and I tried searching the term and didn't find anything relating to a PC term. Could you please explain what the new MFT clearing option does? Thanks.

Any search engine would have a galore of docs for you to read about it.

Microsoft's answer, just one of them they have. And if you want to defrag the MFT read this from Microsoft.

See what Wikipedia has on it here.

CCleaner v2.27

CCleaner While you await the holiday season or the New Year, we've got a release of CCleaner chock full of new features, updates and fixes. Read on.

Security Features

CCleaner now supports secure wiping of MFT free space for NTFS drives.

The Master File Table (MFT) contains an index of the files on an NTFS drive. As the computer overwrites and deletes files, the MFT can accumulate free space which may contain remnants of index pointers to deleted files. You can now set CCleaner to wipe the MFT free space, just as you have been able to set it to wipe free drive space.

To set CCleaner to wipe MFT free space:

1. In CCleaner, click the Options button.

2. On the Options pane, click Settings.

3. In Settings, make sure that Wipe MFT Free Space is selected.

The full change log is listed below:

It's a stand-alone box underneath the Wipe Free Space box that lists the drives you have. At least it is on my pc. I've no idea why you don't appear to have this box, unless you're running an O/S that doesn't use NTFS. An older laptop using FAT32, perhaps?

Later edit - I've tested this and XP on a FAT file system still shows the Wipe MFT box, so that theory's out of the window.
