bccarp1
Is there anything I should be aware of? Is it completely safe? Thanks in advance!
Moderators mta Posted September 25, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2016 first and foremost, "Is it completely safe?" - Hell no. you'll find it stated on this forum many times, and from the official Piriform documentation, that the reg cleaning portion of CC is by far one of the more gentle incarnations of the process around. that being said, it can, and has, gone pear shaped. the underlying problem with cleaning the registry is no ill effects may be visible straight away, sometimes not for months, when you finally get around to running that one program that was effected by the clean. and the next important point is that there is little to no performance gains to be had in doing so. if there is corruption in the registry, CC may get lucky and fix it, so it's always worth a shot but should be one of the very last options left on the table before attempting it. and if proceeding, obviously take the offered backup of the registry that CC suggests. and going one step further, as sometimes corrupted registry's are not fixed by reloading the offered backup, take a system image of the PC. you should also take the approach suggested by @Nergal in his signature when cleaning the registry. also remember, since Windows 10 and its continual version releases, CC seems to be playing playing a bit of catchup with Edge for instance, so who knows what changes have happened in the registry that CC may not handle well. that's my spin on the matter anyway. Backup now & backup often. It's your digital life - protect it with a backup.Three things are certain; Birth, Death and loss of data. You control the last.
