You can try using Internet Explorer, it's already on your machine but you won't have a desktop icon for it. Open the start menu and type: internet That will find internet explorer for you and you can click it to use. Are you saying that you cannot install Chrome or Firefox either? As said above, it may be that your IP address is on a block list for downloads. However if this is happening to you then you should get an error saying something like "This product is forbidden in your country". Some internet service providers have acquired some IPs that were orignally allocated to Syria/Iran/Iraq/North Korea. This can be a problem because some of these IP ranges are still being blocked from downloading certain software, or even visiting some sites. It should get corrected in time, but at the moment I've seen a few forum posts from European users who are being affected. See this thread: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/53819-ccleaner-error-the-product-is-forbidden-to-use-in-your-place-of-stay/?tab=comments#comment-305511 To see if this is your problem then try visiting a few IP geolocation tools and seeing what country they say your IP is in. Heres a couple of links: https://www.iplocation.net/ https://www.ipfingerprints.com/

  10. Time to Complete

    1. For years I used Executive Software's Defrag program and it was great. As time went on and Win 7 pro came along, the need lessened as we more and more started storing different files types on different drives or partitions. The built-in Windows Defrag served our needs well enough. Only time really need something better is when cleaning a data drive ... especially a mirrored backup drive. When files are deleted on a source drive, it doesn't remove the deleted ones. So ever once and a while, I wipe the backup drive and start over. My son keeps some files on that drive related to his Flight Sims , maps and other data that he needs as a pilot as well as 1 or 2 steam games. All drives are SSHDs which comes in handy as files accessed frequently load faster, with the large AutoCAD files being of greatest concern. I did a defrag using defraggler yesterday ... it finished in about 3 hours. It's a 2 TB SSHD with two partitions. The 1st partition on the outer (faster) part of the drive is for active files. The old archived files are on the 2nd (slower) partition. I defragged the 1st yesterday. Today I went in and got rid of some recycle bin files belonging to another user (my son). So before setting up the backup software to get going again, I figured I'd defrag one more time. I started at 12 noon, it's now 7:45 pm and it says it need 9 hours . There are 241.2 GB of Used Space and 690.2 GB of Free Space. It says it is 32% done. It just changed to 9 hours and 15 minutes. The Graphic shows 10 rows of blue (Not Fragmented) squares with about 10% white (empty) at the top. Yesterday there were a lot less white squares. Been watching it as I type (and eat dinner ) .. it's will now complete in 9 hours and 45 minutes. The same 2 squares have been active for quite some time, one about 40% across screen one does yellow followed by one about 75% across screen going green. This has been going on for about 40 minutes. All the while the file names in the status window change about every 3 seconds. Meanwhile the fragmentation column says 0% fragmented and the status remains at 32%. Below those 1st 10 rows, there's about 20 or so almost all white rows, along with 9 red (fragmented) squares, 2 purple (MFT) and two blue ones averaging about 3 colored squares per row. So I guess the question is ... what's taking so long and why stuck at 32% for 8 hours when the whole time it was reading and writing files. I stopped it, ran Windows Defrag and it completed in about a minute. Tried Defraggler again and it says "an hour" .... managed to get to 33% and 45 minutes to go in about 4 minutes. 20 minutes later still says 45 minutes and 38% 2. With 75% of the drive free and planning to use the rest for a mirror backup ... goal is to get all these files in a relatively contiguous space so as to have the archived files at the back of the drive 3. I did see the option of running it with the option of putting files at the end of the drive. Don't see why I would ever choose that option, if anything I'd want the opposite. 4. Don't quite get the discrepancy between 0% fragmented files and 16 (now 70+ red squares at 44%) ... at least its not flashing the same 2 squares yellow and green for an hour and is closing up all the blank spaces this round.

Happy to report that it worked. I didn't have to reboot. Unchecked the 2 options, closed CCleaner, reopened CCleaner, rechecked the options, and it was back to normal. Thanks!

  13. Hello, firstly I cannot stress enough to remove that image as contains emails. Some may be personal. The next is NOTHING other than windows built-in disc cleaner should attempt to remove these folders. Yes, it might take hours. The error is telling you to validate your Outlook Express account configuration. Specifically, if you click on the Tools menu in Outlook Express, then click on the Accounts menu. Finally, it is also possible that your mail server may simply be down. It does happen.

As you say that you are not fluent in English could I ask what country you are in? It may make a difference. There is a problem at the moment with some countries using IP adresses that were originally issued to other countries.

No result. Nothing has changed, void window appears with a circle turning in center.
  18. Search

I'm not sure I entirely understand the question. Are you asking is it better to do a search filter before you scan? If so, no it's better to run the scan then fill in the search/filter box
  19. Search

Being somewhat brain dead due repeated blows to my head from my wife of 20+ years of marriage and not completely computer literate.(or literate at all sometimes these days) I wondering that when you run a scan with Recuva can best to search for specific software?
  20. The Wrong Temperature Thread

Sadly there is no current fix for this and as it's a long-lived bug with a variety of manufacturers may not be fixable in the short-term.

I am 90 yeas old and not fluent in english. On 21/4 I purchased CCleaner and Recuva .I use a PC with Edge, Win 10 and GData antivirus. It is impossible to make download for both. By clicking on "downlaod" in the email received by cleverbridge a void windows opens with a rotating circle inside and no subsequent action. I have tried to find and answer by asking Google but with no result. Can you suggest me a solution or where I can find one? Many Thanks
  23. Drive wipe

Try disabling Hidden Files and Folders in Windows. I can't remember if it hides those files, or if they're just plainly visible.
  24. Hello. I bought and installed a full copy of CCleaner for one the work computers on Tuesday 23rd April, in order to combat the Windows Update Cleaner's inability to clear said updates from the C: drive. I ran the CCleaner and not only did it fail to clear the old updates, but I am now prevented from receiving ANY e-mails through Outlook. Anyone with any idea why this has happened, and what to do about it? Thanks.
  25. I am also facing the same issue. Can anyone be told me how to resolve this issue?

      Forum Rules

Welcome to the Piriform Forums!     In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules for the forums. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact one of The Moderating Team.     1: Be respectful to all members when posting.   No flaming, personal attacks such as flaming, instigating "flame bait", verbal abuse or mocking of members in forum posts are not tolerated at the Piriform Forums. Such posts will be deleted on sight and moderated accordingly. If you are a long standing member, act like one.   Lead by example and assist other newer members rather then attacking them. Members that reply to posts simply to instigate argument will be warned. Should you ignore this warning you will be banned.     2: No Warez (links) & Cracks.   Help, requests or posts that discuss circumvention. This includes linking to illegally obtained software, movies & music files - posting about it, and suggesting to get it.     3: Don't post your question under multiple topics.   Think before posting and choose the right forum for your question or answer. Be sure to check the pinned topics or use the Search feature to see if your question has already been addressed. When posting, have something to say, not just "My first post!"     4: No spamming, ever!   Spamming is characterized by the initiation of threads or posts that contribute nothing to a forum, be it off topic or on topic.   Examples include: empty bodies, bodies with few words that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are spam, either to annoy, advertise or increase a member's post count. Resurrecting old forum posts is also not appreciated unless it serves a worthy cause to the forum. This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.     5: Unacceptable Forum or News comments.   While some members feel that post count is important, there are some posts that do not contribute to the community in any way whatsoever. Below is a list of unacceptable posts. If you wish to direct a fellow member to something that has already been posted, please do so in a courteous manner.   "Old news" or anything similar.   "(Insert product or brand) sucks" or anything similar.   "I posted this x days ago!!!" or anything similar.     6: Avatars, signatures and custom user titles.   I: Avatars are a luxury for the members to have. Avatars can be a maximum of 90x90 and 50kb in size. Avatars can also be in any of these formats: gif, jpg, jpeg, png.   II: Forum signatures are to be used respectfully, so do not annoy our members by making your signature into some sort of web ad. Signatures can be a maximum of 350x100 and 80kb in size.   III: You may have an image at the maximum of 350x100 in your signature at the standard text size and four lines of text with the image.   IV: You may have a maximum six lines of text in your signature at the standard size. Larger font sizes are allowed so long as they do not break the 350x100 limit.   V: X-Fire signatures are an exception to this rule as they only have two sizes that are preset.   VI: Advertising in your signature is strictly prohibited. Linking to a product that competes against Piriform is strictly prohibited.   VII: Custom user titles are not to be abused. Vulgarity, racism or flaming in member titles will not be tolerated.   VIII: Inappropriate content such as Pornographic, violent or otherwise offensive images, language etc. This may include racist remarks, slander etc...   IX: If the avatar/signature is overly distracting, ie. bright flashing colors, animated signatures (i.e. GIF's/Flash) Audio and Video. These are distracting for our members, so do not have audio or video in your signature.   X: Please do not include signature links of a malicious nature. Examples are those that crash your browser, trigger popup floods or emulate BSOD's.   XI: Do not use your signature to link to pages that contain objectionable material. This includes, warez, cracks, pornography, pyramid schemes, referral ID's, ebay listings and requesting personal donations.   Abusing these privileges will result in them being lost and your account being restricted. Disregarding the above rules will result in the loss of the item in violation without warning.     7: Posts in a particular forum need to stay on topic.   If you want to talk about something that is drastically removed from the topic of a forum, please take it to "The Lounge". The Lounge was set up and designed for members to discuss issues not related to a specific forum section. We welcome most general conversation in The Lounge, but discourage it from other forums.     8: Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.   Please refrain from using CAPITALIZATIONS in the topic title or when participating in threads because they will not attract attention - instead it will annoy many of the Piriform Forum members.   Very often we see meaningless subjects in topic title. They give no clue of what the posts are all about.   For example: Oh no! | I'm mad | Please help.   This should be avoided. Users should enter something more specific in topic title so that it is easier for others to help.   A few good examples:   CCleaner crashes during the analysis | Registry issues keep reappearing after scanning with CCleaner Issues | Computer very slow to startup.     9: No alternate accounts are allowed.   Should you be disciplined with a restriction or ban, you are not allowed to open a new account to obtain freedom to post. Restrictions and bans are given for a reason, and usurping that ability by re-registering is not tolerated.   If another account is opened, that account will be banned immediately, and the original account will be further penalized. Anyone who has warnings on their account are automatically excluded from changing their user name.     10: Giving advice on Malware Removal.   Giving advice on the removal of Malware by any member is to be discouraged. Even though some members may believe they have the knowledge to offer some basic safe advice, it may not be the "best" advice, and could also set a precedent for any member, knowledgeable or otherwise, to do the same.   Advice should only be dispensed by a qualified Malware Removal Expert on a reputable Malware Removal Forum.   This is to prevent "wrong" advice, albeit well meaning, being given by non qualified members, which could have disastrous consequences for the original poster.   If someone asks for help on removing Malware would members please limit themselves to pointing them to one or all of the following Malware Removal Forums ...   1: BleepingComputer   2: Geeks to Go   3: MalwareBytes Malware Removal   4: Malware Removal Forum   5: Cyber Tech Help   6: Avast Malware Removal Forum     11: Inappropriate Content.   No content, or advice or requests for assistance, relating to any activity that the moderators consider to be illegal or offensive will be tolerated.     12: The Piriform Staff requires that members respect the decision of moderators.   Threads and posts questioning the actions or decisions of forum moderations will be deleted on sight, and the appropriate action taken (up to and including forum bans) against the thread starter and/or participants.   Reporting System: Do not abuse the report system, while we appreciate members reporting bad behavior, we don't appreciate rude comments or your opinion on how 'quick' staff are at handling problems around here.   However, as a member you reserve the right to PM any Moderator or Administrator regarding action taken at the Piriform Forums.     13. Closed or removed an unacceptable post or topic:   Once an administrator or moderator has closed or removed an unacceptable post or topic it's then deemed to be a closed matter. If the member starts a new topic or posts with the same or similar unacceptable content it will result into administrative actions being taken against the member.   14. Publishing the content of Private Messages:   Please be aware that the posting of any contents of private messages (PM's) is expressly forbidden on the forum unless both parties have agreed to it.   15. Requesting help with computer issues via the pm (private messaging) system:   The pm (private messaging) system isn't to be used for requests for help with computer issues.   All requests for help must be posted in a topic on the forum where the poster will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of all members, and many others will benefit from the answers and solutions provided.   If any member (which includes moderators) wants to volunteer aid by pm after a topic has first been opened, then that's up to him or her and is perfectly acceptable.   Using the pm system as an alternative to opening a topic where everyone may benefit, isn't the correct or fair way to use that system, and could put members into the uncomfortable position of having to refuse requests for help, or worse still, being unable to refuse.   If any member is in that position, and still doesn't know what to do, then please pm one of the moderators, and they will sort it out quickly, confidentially, and in as friendly a way as possible.     Note:   Any infraction of these guidelines will result in a warning placed against your Piriform Forum account and will be added to your overall warning level.
