  1. Today
  2. Oh, and, dear people of CCleaner, I have been using CCleaner Free for a long, long time and always found it a good program. So, as a way to support you, I bought the Professional version. But I kind of missed the fact that it is a "subscription-based" and "one-year" buy, and I am not content about this. Call me old-fashioned, but I do not want to buy every year to have a program run. I want to buy for it and be able to run it as long as possible. So, next year I will not "renew" this "subscription" of CCleaner Professional. I just wanted to add this.
  3. Hello to all, I am running CCleaner Professional (5.56.7144) in Windows 10 Home (1809, 17763.437), and CCleaner is saying I have to disable Edge pre-launching and pre-loading (yes, I would very much like to do that, since I don't use Edge). For help CCleaner loads the following webpage: https://www.ccleaner.com/docs/ccleaner/troubleshooting/how-to-disable-pre-launching-and-pre-loading-so-ccleaner-can-fully-clean-edge where it shows how to do the aforementioned pre-launching and -loading in the Registry (which I am familiair with). Other webpages show the same "tip" on how to do this. However, there are no Registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MicrosoftEdge\Main and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MicrosoftEdge\TabPreloader. Does anyone knows how to solve this thing?
  4. Windows 10 1903

I see a lot of windows version fragmentation, and it's a flaw of Microsoft's own making.
  5. Windows 10 1903

For those who like graphs, estimate of Windows 10 version uptake rate as of April https://reports.adduplex.com/#/r/2019-04
  6. Computer can't open recovered files

What were the files on, and what file system?
  7. What is the relationship between SQL and MySQL?

Is this a question, or an answer, and why is it in Network Edition, and why do SB's posts reek of spam?
  8. I wouldn't run any cleaner between downloading and installing anything not just Windows updates. PS. If you are still on 1803 then you will no longer be offered 1809; you'll jump straight to 1903. 1803 is coming to EoS and Microsoft have said it will be automatically updated to 1903 (in the next month).
  9. So, if the windows updates are downloaded and asking for the restart and then run ccleaner then will it harm it? If you download the 1809 update from 1803 in Windows Update and downloaded and then running the ccleaner won't it harm ? because I so upgrade the system and installed it properly. So: 1., the windows update is downloaded 2. will be installed or will be installed at restart 3., you run the ccleaner 4. You restart the machine because it was requested by the windows update. So doesn't ccleaner hurt windows updates? I hope it is not Sorry my bad english, i'm from hungary
  10. Windows 10 1903

You'll jump 1809 (they stopped pushing it out on Automatic Updates some time ago) and go straight to 1903: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3396660/microsoft-orphans-windows-10-1809-prepares-to-jump-1803-users-straight-to-1903.html
  11. Windows 10 1903

I have a qualcom wifi driver so was a bit wary of that issue, I checked for an update for it before installing 1903 and it said it was up to date. So I went for it and it wasn't a problem.
  12. There is probably one or more left over registry entries for Opera somewhere. Revo is good, but like any uninstaller it can sometimes miss something. (Maybe you set something somewhere to open in Opera? Uninstalling Opera wouldn't clear that setting). If you have Revo Pro then you could try a 'Forced Uninstall' to see if that will clear it. Otherwise if you are comfortable with using the registry editor you could search the registry yourself for anything that mentions Opera. Usual warning - If you don't know what you are doing with the registry editor then don't use it, you could brick your computer.
  13. Winapp2.ini additions

Thanks for your reply and the revised entries. Thanks of course also to all others for their new or revised entries. Winapp2.ini update: https://github.com/MoscaDotTo/Winapp2/commit/69030c80e2ac9102c6a438d605ef7111ba8bbdd1
  14. Mouse lag after free space wipe

It's more likely the mouse itself. (Unless you have somehow affected the mouse driver). They can start acting funny at times for seemingly no reason. If it's a wireless mouse then try unpluging the dongle and plugging it back in again. (And change the mouse batteries or make sure it's charged). If it's a wired mouse then unplug/replug the lead. Have you tried a different mouse? It's always a good idea to have a spare mouse handy, because they do break down You could also try going to the device manager, right click the entry for the mouse, and update the driver.
  15. CCleaner will not start anymore - W10 - CC 5.57

Hi Peaceful Jim, We have responded to your support request, if you do not receive this please message me back on here so I can look into it.
  16. Subscription pop up keep comming up

You may have been given a fresh activation key when you renewed your subscription? If so be sure to use that new one. If you are still having problems, paid customers such as yourself can get direct personal priority customer support here. They can sort out any weirdness that may be happening with your account.
  17. Hi everyone, this issue has been bothering me since I saw the magnitude of the game localization files, esp. same cinematics for lots of different languages each. Also, nearly every application has been translated to many languages and all of the files are installed even after choosing one language during install. Since there are different localization file structures in different programs, I think CCleaner can handle this problem with a database consisting how to look for different programs' language files. It will be a very nice add-on.
  18. Downloaded the new version of CCleaner 5.57 with no problems as usual. However I noticed when I ran it for the first time, it said I had, besides the usual Windows 10 browsers, that I had Chrome, Firefox, both of which are true, BUT it also said I had the Opera browser and tried to go through the cleaning process for that browser. Pretty slick because I used to have Opera installed on my computer, but uninstalled it awhile ago. So I thought maybe CCleaner is still recognizing it from when it was installed. So I uninstalled CCleaner, rebooted my computer and then reinstalled CCleaner again. Opened CCleaner again, and it still thinks I have opera installed! I used a reputable uninstall program (Revo Uninstaller) to uninstall Opera that I have used for a long time and it does a good job of completely uninstalling programs, including registry files and leftover system files. So I don't know why CCleaner still thinks I have Opera installed, but it keeps trying to clean it when I run it. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  19. Windows 10 1903

Nergal it's not too much of a surprise that the previous v1809 wasn't offered with all the issues it initially had and the continued issues being found with it. I think I read somewhere online where the install rate was only in the 20% range. Only thing is with v1903 and the potential issues listed and versions of drivers and software they state are needed from OEM's, well good luck with that. Many OEM's offer "new" drivers at a glacial speed.
  20. I don't have any of those smart speakers, not because I'm paranoid of their spying but because they are all bad speakers. Instead I have sonos speakers networked up in most of the rooms in my house. I know some will say they aren't great either but the convenience of them outweighs everything else.
  21. CCleaner will not start anymore - W10 - CC 5.57

I have opened a support ticket and I will update this post if a solution is found.

  23. Windows 10 1903

No matter what I do (short of making a install disc and forcing it) I can't get above 1803 oh well I hardly use a pc any more
  24. Winapp2.ini additions

Yes, other Google programs use same locations to keep update files. I have Google Earth and it keeps updates in there. I agree that we should also add %LocalAppData%
  25. Windows 10 1903

Sorry for the delay, I got stuck helping/serving in the pub (Travellers on their way to Appleby horse fair). 1903 installed with no problems, download was fine once I'd got a fast conection, but install took it's time. Looking round the settings obviously there are changes, but no problems that I can see yet.
  26. After accidentally ctrl-z ing away a folder full of photos I used recuva to get the files back. The files were all there but when I try and view the photos my computer tells me that it doesn't support the format (they are all .jpgs, which shouldn't cause problems.) What happened? How can I get my pictures back?

      Forum Rules

Welcome to the Piriform Forums!     In order to keep the forums running well and to prevent problems, please follow these simple rules for the forums. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact one of The Moderating Team.     1: Be respectful to all members when posting.   No flaming, personal attacks such as flaming, instigating "flame bait", verbal abuse or mocking of members in forum posts are not tolerated at the Piriform Forums. Such posts will be deleted on sight and moderated accordingly. If you are a long standing member, act like one.   Lead by example and assist other newer members rather then attacking them. Members that reply to posts simply to instigate argument will be warned. Should you ignore this warning you will be banned.     2: No Warez (links) & Cracks.   Help, requests or posts that discuss circumvention. This includes linking to illegally obtained software, movies & music files - posting about it, and suggesting to get it.     3: Don't post your question under multiple topics.   Think before posting and choose the right forum for your question or answer. Be sure to check the pinned topics or use the Search feature to see if your question has already been addressed. When posting, have something to say, not just "My first post!"     4: No spamming, ever!   Spamming is characterized by the initiation of threads or posts that contribute nothing to a forum, be it off topic or on topic.   Examples include: empty bodies, bodies with few words that have no relation to the current thread or discussion and those posts that state they are spam, either to annoy, advertise or increase a member's post count. Resurrecting old forum posts is also not appreciated unless it serves a worthy cause to the forum. This determination is made by the forum Moderator or Administrator and is not up for discussion.     5: Unacceptable Forum or News comments.   While some members feel that post count is important, there are some posts that do not contribute to the community in any way whatsoever. Below is a list of unacceptable posts. If you wish to direct a fellow member to something that has already been posted, please do so in a courteous manner.   "Old news" or anything similar.   "(Insert product or brand) sucks" or anything similar.   "I posted this x days ago!!!" or anything similar.     6: Avatars, signatures and custom user titles.   I: Avatars are a luxury for the members to have. Avatars can be a maximum of 90x90 and 50kb in size. Avatars can also be in any of these formats: gif, jpg, jpeg, png.   II: Forum signatures are to be used respectfully, so do not annoy our members by making your signature into some sort of web ad. Signatures can be a maximum of 350x100 and 80kb in size.   III: You may have an image at the maximum of 350x100 in your signature at the standard text size and four lines of text with the image.   IV: You may have a maximum six lines of text in your signature at the standard size. Larger font sizes are allowed so long as they do not break the 350x100 limit.   V: X-Fire signatures are an exception to this rule as they only have two sizes that are preset.   VI: Advertising in your signature is strictly prohibited. Linking to a product that competes against Piriform is strictly prohibited.   VII: Custom user titles are not to be abused. Vulgarity, racism or flaming in member titles will not be tolerated.   VIII: Inappropriate content such as Pornographic, violent or otherwise offensive images, language etc. This may include racist remarks, slander etc...   IX: If the avatar/signature is overly distracting, ie. bright flashing colors, animated signatures (i.e. GIF's/Flash) Audio and Video. These are distracting for our members, so do not have audio or video in your signature.   X: Please do not include signature links of a malicious nature. Examples are those that crash your browser, trigger popup floods or emulate BSOD's.   XI: Do not use your signature to link to pages that contain objectionable material. This includes, warez, cracks, pornography, pyramid schemes, referral ID's, ebay listings and requesting personal donations.   Abusing these privileges will result in them being lost and your account being restricted. Disregarding the above rules will result in the loss of the item in violation without warning.     7: Posts in a particular forum need to stay on topic.   If you want to talk about something that is drastically removed from the topic of a forum, please take it to "The Lounge". The Lounge was set up and designed for members to discuss issues not related to a specific forum section. We welcome most general conversation in The Lounge, but discourage it from other forums.     8: Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.   Please refrain from using CAPITALIZATIONS in the topic title or when participating in threads because they will not attract attention - instead it will annoy many of the Piriform Forum members.   Very often we see meaningless subjects in topic title. They give no clue of what the posts are all about.   For example: Oh no! | I'm mad | Please help.   This should be avoided. Users should enter something more specific in topic title so that it is easier for others to help.   A few good examples:   CCleaner crashes during the analysis | Registry issues keep reappearing after scanning with CCleaner Issues | Computer very slow to startup.     9: No alternate accounts are allowed.   Should you be disciplined with a restriction or ban, you are not allowed to open a new account to obtain freedom to post. Restrictions and bans are given for a reason, and usurping that ability by re-registering is not tolerated.   If another account is opened, that account will be banned immediately, and the original account will be further penalized. Anyone who has warnings on their account are automatically excluded from changing their user name.     10: Giving advice on Malware Removal.   Giving advice on the removal of Malware by any member is to be discouraged. Even though some members may believe they have the knowledge to offer some basic safe advice, it may not be the "best" advice, and could also set a precedent for any member, knowledgeable or otherwise, to do the same.   Advice should only be dispensed by a qualified Malware Removal Expert on a reputable Malware Removal Forum.   This is to prevent "wrong" advice, albeit well meaning, being given by non qualified members, which could have disastrous consequences for the original poster.   If someone asks for help on removing Malware would members please limit themselves to pointing them to one or all of the following Malware Removal Forums ...   1: BleepingComputer   2: Geeks to Go   3: MalwareBytes Malware Removal   4: Malware Removal Forum   5: Cyber Tech Help   6: Avast Malware Removal Forum     11: Inappropriate Content.   No content, or advice or requests for assistance, relating to any activity that the moderators consider to be illegal or offensive will be tolerated.     12: The Piriform Staff requires that members respect the decision of moderators.   Threads and posts questioning the actions or decisions of forum moderations will be deleted on sight, and the appropriate action taken (up to and including forum bans) against the thread starter and/or participants.   Reporting System: Do not abuse the report system, while we appreciate members reporting bad behavior, we don't appreciate rude comments or your opinion on how 'quick' staff are at handling problems around here.   However, as a member you reserve the right to PM any Moderator or Administrator regarding action taken at the Piriform Forums.     13. Closed or removed an unacceptable post or topic:   Once an administrator or moderator has closed or removed an unacceptable post or topic it's then deemed to be a closed matter. If the member starts a new topic or posts with the same or similar unacceptable content it will result into administrative actions being taken against the member.   14. Publishing the content of Private Messages:   Please be aware that the posting of any contents of private messages (PM's) is expressly forbidden on the forum unless both parties have agreed to it.   15. Requesting help with computer issues via the pm (private messaging) system:   The pm (private messaging) system isn't to be used for requests for help with computer issues.   All requests for help must be posted in a topic on the forum where the poster will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of all members, and many others will benefit from the answers and solutions provided.   If any member (which includes moderators) wants to volunteer aid by pm after a topic has first been opened, then that's up to him or her and is perfectly acceptable.   Using the pm system as an alternative to opening a topic where everyone may benefit, isn't the correct or fair way to use that system, and could put members into the uncomfortable position of having to refuse requests for help, or worse still, being unable to refuse.   If any member is in that position, and still doesn't know what to do, then please pm one of the moderators, and they will sort it out quickly, confidentially, and in as friendly a way as possible.     Note:   Any infraction of these guidelines will result in a warning placed against your Piriform Forum account and will be added to your overall warning level.
