I noticed last night when I ran filehippo's auto checker (by the way, v1.010 is quite accurate, at least not listing the two graphics cards I don't even have!) it lists both. Do I need to actually install both or do you install the IE and then a Firefox plugin?

Internet Explorer requires its own compile of it, the ActiveX version.
Third-party browsers non-IE, such as Firefox, Opera need the non-IE compile of it. So yeah you need both versions.

Yeah and anyone installing the Internet Explorer ActiveX version make sure you pay attention to the webpage and untick Google Toolbar if you don't want it installed - hard to believe a commercial company like Adobe with overpriced software needs revenue from a damned toolbar add-on.

I used those settings to notify me about updates and I have never been notified of an update on any machine.
