I cannot stop winantivirus and other pop-ups from appearing on my computer. I've tried to clean off the computer but if someone could analyze this log I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Jawa18, Welcome to the forum

First can you disable the Real Time protection on Windows Defender so it doesnt interfere with the removal tool or HijackThis fixes.

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Run Hijack This and choose Do A System Scan then place a check next to these entries

Close all open browser and other windows except for Hijack This and press the Fix Checked button

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
• You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
• When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt into your next reply.

Goto Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove any versions of Java Runtime Environment (J2SE) that are in the list such as the 1.4.2_03 version that is showing in the log, this version is very old and vulnerable to some infections, mainly the Vundo infection which you may have on the system now.

Once they have been removed reboot the pc and download the latest version (5.0 Update 7) from Here


Finally generate a list of the Add/Remove screen entries to make sure there is no problems showing.

Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the Config... (Configuration) button.
Once in the Configuration panel, click Misc Tools button.
Then click the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
The Add/Remove Programs Manager panel should appear.
In this panel click the Save list button.
Save the uninstall_list.txt file to your desktop and copy and paste the contents back in your next reply.

Please then post back the C:\vundofix.txt, the uninstall list and a new HijackThis log

Nice to see Vundo wasnt found, maybe it was a different infection but it was using the same tactics of hooking to Winlogon and adding a BHO with matching names but its good to see whatever it was has already been removed.

There's a few optionals showing in the log but nothing malicious so I will mention them below and then run Pandascan to make sure there isnt any remaining issues.

MyWay isnt malware but is classed as a potentially unwanted program as its pre-installed on Dell machines without the owners consent and comes bundled with other software. If you value the service from MyWay then its fine to leave on the pc but if you do not it can be removed from the Add/Remove screen (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) by removing MyWay Search Assistant, if you do remove it and any of the above entries remain they can be fixed using HijackThis. See Here and Here for more information.


The Add/Remove screen shows Viewpoint Media Player is installed, again this isnt malicious but is classed as foistware as its often installed without the users consent, you can read Here for more information and there maybe some indications that they will move into tracking users at some stage which you can read more about Here. If you value the service they provide then it can be left on the system but if not then it can be removed using the Add/Remove screen.


O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
Application Scheduler installed along with Real Player. Once installed, it runs independently and doesnt need to start up automatically with Windows. To disable this after fixing the entry so it doesnt return, goto Start Menu > All Programs > Real Player > Click Tools then Preferences. Goto The Automatic Services and uncheck all boxes. Do the same for the AutoUpdate & Message Center tabs and press OK then exit


O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
QuickTime tray icon which doesnt need to start with Windows, Quicktime movies will still play automatically when they are run. To stop it coming back right click the blue Quicktime Icon in the system tray then click Quicktime Preferences or access Quicktimes options on the Control Panel. Goto the Advanced tab and Uncheck the 'Install Quicktime Icon In System Tray' box then press Apply and OK and fix the above entry in Hijack This if it remains.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe
Checks for Java updates but doesnt need to start up with Windows. You can still update Java after fixing this entry by using the Control Panel's Java icon (Start Menu > Control Panel > Java) or by visiting Sun's website Here


Finally run Panda Activescan from Here.

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.

Post back the Pandascan report if it detects any malware and let us know if your still having any problems.

Thank you again for the help. I took care of the optional items you pointed out and ran a scan on Panda. Two cookies came up but that was it. My computer seems to be running much better now but I will check back if it starts acting up again. You guys are the best, take care.
