Run ewido in safe mode. I think that might allow it to remove what it couldnt.
stanbates
OK, run it all in safe mode, there are still problems removing the spyware.

Norton AV keeps detecting a virus:

C:\windows\system32\howiper.exe

Ewido keeps detecting:

downloader.agent.uj but has problems removing it, even in safe mode. I have included the last few reports and the hijackthis one too.

p.s. i have disabled system restore as per norton av instruction on the website

thanks for your time.

ive now run our advice in both XP safe mode and in XP Normal

ive removed the 3 month trial version of Norton AV and installed AVG (free version)

ive attached the two reports from both hijack and ewido

i noted that in safe mode ewido finds 7 items but in XP it finds between 30 - 40 in both safe and normal it refers to downloader.agent.uj and again in both it states an "error during cleaning" as per report.

Howiper still appears in the C:\windows\system32\howiper.exe and again when its picked up its quoted that its unable to repair.

If I may suggest doing the following;

Download and run blacklite
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
If any items show, have blacklite rename them except for wbemtest.exe"
Do not rename "wbemtest.exe" its a windows file.
The tool will ask if you want to reboot, (restart) choose yes.

After you have rebooted post back with blacklites log, it will be next to the program.

as per your suggestion i renamed the three other "hidden" files

and please find the report that blbeta wrote to my desktop.

again thanks for all this help you both are clearly up on this. im finding my self in "monkey see - monkey do" territory.

p.s. following those actions and this posting Norton AV flagged up Howiper again and as before it also stated it was unable to repair, it lives on!

thanks for your prompt reply.

as per my post script, Norton AV flagged up howiper.exe again and when i searched out the three files using *.exe.ren in the system32 file it only located two (csgbe & favset) im not going to guess at whats just happened obviously its "repaired" itself in the last 15 mins but how i dont know!

i have not yet deleted those two remaining exe.ren yet as per your instruction, i thought it best to hold fire. but i can delete them by reply.

I suggest running blacklite again, rename the necessary files, reboot then immediately delete the 3 files I noted. Reboot again and post a new hijackthis log.

Can you also do the following;

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [JAguAr] corrida.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [browsebar] ERTYDF.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [install2] NopeZ.exe

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

If it looks like this it's ok. You may want to think about changing firewalls as Symantec has bought out Sygate sad.gif. I just dumped Sygate Pro and got Kerio because of that.

Are you still having problems now with your laptop?
stanbates
thank you for your detailed advice and your time. i will look at the firewall issue after ive got some sleep.

i will also try out my explorer after that. till then thanks again and i hope i havnt shown my ignorance to all this too much!

I will give you my closing spiel now then biggrin.gif.

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

===============

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

If you have any more problems, post back.
