I'm using Recuva to try to get back data that was lost via a reinstallation of windows. The user didn't know what she was doing. Somehow the file is there, but I can't recover it.

The file's name is blank and it's listed path is "E:\?\" It has no overwritten clusters detected and has state of Excellent. When I attempt to recover it gives me this

Operation Complete
Recovered 0 files in 0.34 sec.
The following files were not recovered (1 total):

Filename | Size | Reason
2,441 KB Access is Denied

Now I took the entire drive and set the owner to local administrator of the system I'm using to recover the data with; And I set file access permissions for all files to everyone / full control. However I still get this error.

Here's the kicker, these files are her images, and I can see the full resolution image in the preview pane of Recuva, but can't recover the file. It's infuriating!

I've been able to recover photos that were supposedly unrecoverable and some listed as in perfect condition were only partially recovered. You could try a jpeg repair program... or maybe even a different recovery program.

I intend to try a JPEG recovery program when I get them all recoverd and I survey the damage. My issue is the Access Denied to be able to recover them in the first place. I tried Handy Recovery but it can't see the same files.

Any other suggestions for recovery programs?
