Hi, recently I have offered to help a friend to help fix his laptop. Being the young ignorant kid that I am I figured I could tackle the problem with ease. I have tried everything I know. ( Using safe mode and such ) and I can't find a solution.

The Problem:

The laptop starts up fine and everything, It's an IBM Thinkpad with windows XP SP3. When you start it most the programs work fine, but you try and use Mozilla and this error pops up

Privacy Center
"The application firefox.exe was launched succesfully but it was forced to shut down due to security reasons.
This happened because the application was infected by a malicious software program which might present damage for the OS.
It is highly recommended to make a full scan of your computer and to exterminate the malicious programs from it."

Also he has a program called privacy center that keeps displaying attacks one i commonly see is a firewall warning saying Incoming attack from ip: 89.132.209.36 and saying threat blocked... even though i doubt it is.

With privacy center i have tried to scan malware and the scan upbruptly stops in the middle. (i think this is one of those fake maleware ad programs ) but i dont know since i dont own the computer.

Other things i have tried is installing avast. Iexplorer exits instantly with any website / search of avast/hijackthis/antivirus. so i had tried sending the exe files over email. Which i had to rename to recieve.

Once i click on a install exe of avast or maleware adbytes or rootrepeal it pops up quick and exits out.

I have tried all of this in safe mode and out of it neither seems to work...

Please help, Thanks.
