I got a pop-up from Firefox that says my current version of Foxfire is not being supported.
Then asked if I want to download Firefox 3.
Has anyone gotten this and should I go to Firefox 3?
THanks

When did FF go 3.0?.....in July 2008. Welcome to the 21st century Mark Twain.
By the way you might wanna check out your Windows Update feature. There's been a few changes this past millennia.

If you're going to upgrade to Firefox 3 I'd say it's time to do a clean install of it since so much has changed, and doing so won't leave obsolete no longer used files behind. Just backup your bookmarks and write down what your favourite add-ons are so you can easily find them again.

I have a life other than spending it on a computer.
Others:
A while back I did "upgrade" to FF 3 but didn't like some of the new stuff, especially the address bar with all previous sites showing that I 'visited'.
Is the current FF OK to run?
Has everyone upgraded to FF 3?

Not yet, deliberately held off for a while but have been intending to for a couple of months now, just haven't got round to it (clean install followed by all that messing about setting it up how i want, updating extensions and finding alternatives for those that don't work etc etc

).

I agree . . . my current version is working fine.
As long as I know Mozilla is supporting it I'm sticking with what I have.

But technically they're not, they haven't been releasing security updates for it for some time.

That's not good!
However, my virus & spyware protection have not come up with anything . . .
Would everyone recommend switching to FF 3 or should I just go with what I have?I just hate that "Awesome" bar that keeps bringing up sites I've gone to . . . very annoying. That was the biggest reason I switched . . . in addition to "hang ups" on some sites.

That's the only reason I ever even updated to v3. I have to admit the changes from v2 to v3 did take some getting used to, and disabling the "awesome bar" was one of the first things I did. I just wish there was a way to make it use standard HTML bookmarks again, but no joy in making that happen.

Purely from a security point of view I would recommend updating yes. Plus it's been around long enough now that most irritations can be sorted, whether by tweaking or extensions. I am intending to get round to it asap (although I've been saying that for ages lol).

Still on FF 2 here. Tried FF 3, but didn't like it at all -- seemed very cumbersome and slow. Went back to the most up-to-date version of 2 (2.0.0.20, I believe). Seems to be a much "tighter" program.

I guess I'll be upgrading to FF 3 (I am concerned about security) . . . and hopefully figure out how to avoid the "Awesome Bar" aka "Awful Bar" thing and a few other parts I disliked about it.
So . . . I can simply download FF 3 over my current version of FF?
Thanks from a non-computer specialist!

You can but most, including me, would recommend a clean install (ie uninstall an remove all traces of FF2 first) to avoid any potential problems with such a major update. You can use the
FEBE extension to back up your bookmarks and extensions before uninstalling and then use it again to restore your bookmarks. Most recent FF2 compatible version here:

I upgraded to V3 and it's fine. It had some bugs at first, but all worked out. It took some getting used to, but it's a great browser. Nice to see you posting tommyk, you are an oldie like some of the rest of us!

I always check in every now and then and see what's the latest on security/spyware/software and whenever I have a question and/or issue with my computer this is the place to come to.
Excellent advice and help from the "pros" who are always polite and understanding with us novices.
I'll let everyone know how my download of FF3 went and any issues.
Thanks every one!

I upgraded to FF3 and it worked! And I got rid of the "awesome bar"
In addition I was having a problem with ask.com showing up. It used to be google. I figured out how to get rid of that annoyance!
I guess you need to stay on your toes at all times and be aware of what's going on with your computer!
Thanks for the help

I upgraded to Firefox 3 the day it came out and never had an issue with it. Sometimes it feels slower, but all of my extensions work. I believe it is worth it.

I think IE8 does a decent job even though doesn't have the nifty extensions like FF.
