Full Version: How can I avoid reinstalling Windows?

I had previously installed Lord of the Rings Online on my external hard drive via my laptop. My external died rather unexpectedly and I got it replaced, no big deal. Well, now I'm wanting to reinstall LOTRO, this time directly on my laptop. The problem is, the game remembers that it should already be installed on my former E:/ drive and will not let me install it on the C:/ drive. I obviously can't uninstall the game, seeing as I no longer have the drive, and the only other option the game gives me is to update the game data on E:/.

I tried running C Cleaner but I am still having this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do NOT want to reinstall Windows if at all possible.

1. Backup the registry by making a System Restore point.
2. Search both the hard disk(s), and the Windows registry for references left over from the game and remove them, or optionally try to remove it with Revo Uninstaller (freeware).
3. Try to install/re-install your game again.

Or use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove all traces from the previous installation. After that you should be able to install the software again.
