System Requirements:
CODE

*** System Requirements ***

Operating system:
Windows XP/2000 (recommendation)
Windows 95/98/Me (see Caution)

*** Caution ***
When handling the large image, the memory capacity
called the system resource is greatly consumed.
When using Windows 95, 98, or ME, particularly, the
available system resource is restricted due to
memory management.

Even if the memory is extended in large quantity,
therefore, it does not mean an increase in the system
resource. If lots of software is starting at the same
time, the system resource is greatly consumed, causing
the application to operate unstably.

If the hard disk is vehemently accessed for more than
10 seconds in selecting the large image or switching
the application, close an unused window and restart.
This will recover the system resource. Insufficiency
of the system resource can be solved by terminating and
reducing the resident software displayed in the task tray.

Win Cleaner memory OPtimiser by business logic corporation <wincleaner.com> try this fantastic mem optimiser, even works with 248MB or lower ram with remarkable results, without slowing you down as it runs on very frugal resources, in the background... would advise you set it up to optimise at program start but not to auto load at system start

further, just another tip worth implementing : in regedit (if youre comfy with it) go to run, type regedit and go to...

HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SESSION MANAGER\MEMOMRY MANAGEMENT\PREFETCH PARAMETERS\ENABLE PREFETCHER ( double click this and click on decimal and then enter 5 , thats it press enter and get out of regedit all together ...

No offense but memory optimizing software and prefetch hacks don't do much. They can actually cause slowdowns.

I agree, especially those prefetch registry "tweaks". They don't do a s*it. I have tried those tweaks back in the day, but ended up to disabling prefetching completely. Benefit of prefetching is really minimal (IMO).

Same applies to connection optimizers also. I tried some "optimizer" with my previous 98SE machine and connection came terrible slow. This is also just my opinion, basing to my own experiences.

That tweak just disables prefetch - Windows only recognises a value between 0-3 (0 = Disabled, 1 = Application Launch Prefetch, 2 = Boot Prefetch, 3 = Prefetch All)

I was about to say the same thing in my earlier message. If you think a little, setting the value to 5 makes no sense, since there's only values 0-3 to play with. I don't think, that Windows really recognize values above that.

whats a good freeware Photo calender software, with maximum amount of features and yet not too much of a memory cruncher..... and most importantly it shouldn't be a .NET framework dependant ( one that just does its job in winxp environment )

You could try Photo Print Calender, it's listed in this post.
The system requirements for it have no mentioning of needing .NET Framework.

I tried that about a month ago. Wasn't happy with a PDF app that used 150 MB of RAM. It was a major resource hog. Nice features though.

Strange, I'm using the portable version and only uses about 25Mb. More than Foxit but not exactly a resource hog, besides I would expect that as it has more functions. I've been using it for a few days now and no problems yet.

Might be worth a second look wink.gif

XP-AntiSpy is a little utility that lets you disable some built-in update and authetication 'features' in WindowsXP.

For example, there's a service running in the background wich is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don`t know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions.

If you like, you can even disable these function manually, by going through the System and checking or unchecking some checkboxes. This will take you approximately half an hour. But why wasting time when a little neat utility can do the same in 1 minute?

XP-Antispy was successfully tested by many users and was found to disable all the known 'Suspicious' Functions in WindowsXP.

Download it here.

The "Automatic Updates" are for the Windows updats you get monthly. With that disabled you won't get notified when updates are available. Not a big problem as long as you visit the update site a maunally down load the patches every month.

You can't do a manual update with the service set to anything other than automatic, it's not just for aotomatic updates.

You can turn the service back on once a month to do the manual update. I do this with AVG AS. I keep the service for it disabled and turn it on when I need to update or scan with AVG AS.

this thread has been great!! thank you all ..

i found this handy freeware app the other day , clone maxx .. it makes an identical copy of a hard drive onto another drive regardless of file system or OS .. i booted it off a CD and cloned our server onto another hard drive and after tested it and it booted the server no problem exactly like the other drive.

the free version has a few limitations but the only one i noticed was it wouldn't let me clone to a drive of the same size , i had to clone a 20 gig onto a 40 gig drive , worked fine tho.

Hello everyone! I have some freeware recommendations, if they haven't been posted here already.

Auslogics Disk Defrag: It's a great program at defragging your computer and I've used it a lot with out any problems. Very user-friendly too.

Auslogics Registry Defrag: Unlike some registry cleaning/defragging programs, Auslogics Registry Defrag doesn't screw up your computer. A quick reboot is all you need. It's great and I've used it for some time without any problems. Very user-friendly too. wink.gif

Being that I loath the Mac OS- and all the snotty kids in my grade that use it - I encourage the use of this program I received in a PC World Daily Downloads email

Quake III Arena:

I'd say Nexiuz but I dont know the website of the most amazing interactive fps for linux off the top of my head

also- ET Quake Wars is good too.

again, my Linux corrupted my mbr so I have to boot it on a disc to use it partially. It stole a 32 GB partition of my hard disk, lol. I could get it back but I like having 200GB on my windows one for now biggrin.gif.
