sad.gif I contracted the famous "AURORA spyware" and although I believe I don't have the pop-ups any more after utilizing a multitude of programs (CleanUp, Ad-ware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido, TDS-3, as well as scanned it with an online antivirus program called Trend Housecall) I still have some files that keep reappearing in Ewido that "CANNOT BE DELETED". I also have a line in "HighjackThis" that says the following "O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\program files\newdotnet\newdotnet6_38.dll' missing" and I need to know how to fix it.

Thanks in advance, smile.gif

You may wish to move to Firefox. Also, uninstall RealPlayer and use Real Alternative.

After you have removed the above entries, scan again with CWShredder, Ad-Aware, Spybot, MS AntiSpy, and your Anti-Virus products. Make sure everything is updated. Also make use of SpywareBlaster to protect yourself. You can download all of these (except MS AntiSpy) in the Anti-Malware package I have gathered.

Your log for your ewido was trying to remove items in System Restore. By turning off System Restore you should be able to safely remove them.

When you're finished, reboot your computer and reenable System Restore if you wish and if everything has been safely cleaned and removed.

Best of luck,
Tarun

Thanks for your suggestions. I have questions regarding the Safe to Remove entries:

1. I have www.yahoo.com as the default web page when I open the Internet. Will removing these items in the "R0" selections also get rid-off my default configuration from Internet Explorer and FireFox?

2. What does the third "R0" correspond to? That is, "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =" I just want to make sure I am not disactivating a utility that I also previously configured for Internet Explorer.

3. The first two items in "O2" and "O3" refer to a Merriam-Webster toolbar that I installed which allows me to find quickly for definitions of words. Will eliminating these rows also eliminate my Merriam-Webster toolbar from the Internet Explorer? And also what does the the third "O2" correspond to? That is, "O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B930BA63-9E5A-11D3-A288-0000E80E2EDE} - (no file)"

4. I see that the "O4" entries have names for stuff that I have in my PC such as Bluetooth wireless, Panasonic digital camera, and ActiveSync for the synchronization with my Pocket PC, among others. Pretty much the same question - will deleting these items here also eliminate the configurations I implemented for any of my devices as well as uninstalling them? Or are these items simply automatically activating them in the taskbar before I even use them?

5. Your suggestion to eliminate RealPlayer and replace it with "REAL ALTERNATIVE" sounds good because I agree that it bombards you with advertisements - BUT can Real Alternative burn music in .MP3 format??? If not, what do you advise???

6. With respect to "O9" items I will check my Tools Items and see which ones I don't need and get rid of them. Thx.

7. The items in "O16" refer to programs that I have downloaded in the past. I believe I read somewhere that deleting these items in HighjackThis will also delete them from the hardrive. Why would you want to delete them???

Thanks so much for your patience with my questions rolleyes.gif

All of that is why I tell Tarun not to recommend to people to remove things that aren't malicious tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

I'll let Tarun answer all of those.

Just about any program can burn mp3 discs. If you have your music encoded in mp3 format just burn them as data discs. If you want a great free burning program try this: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/download.php

I ran both HighjackThis and Ewido and all appeared clean. However, when I run Adware I still get some items classified as “Negligible Objects”. Do you know why I am still getting them and how do you stop them from re-appearing? Below are the 3 objects ,as well as a new HighjackThis log:

QUOTE(wyman @ May 25 2005, 07:54 PM)
Thanks for your suggestions.  I have questions regarding the Safe to Remove entries:

1.  I have www.yahoo.com as the default web page when I open the Internet.  Will removing these items in the "R0" selections also get rid-off my default configuration from Internet Explorer and FireFox?
*

It simply removes the homepage settings which can be reset to anything. As it says in the generated log cleaner it's safe to remove.

QUOTE(wyman @ May 25 2005, 07:54 PM)
2.  What does the third "R0" correspond to?  That is, "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName ="  I just want to make sure I am not disactivating a utility that I also previously configured for Internet Explorer.
*

Means it's not there, so you can remove it.

QUOTE(wyman @ May 25 2005, 07:54 PM)
*

You said you use Firefox, you can download that for the search bar. It also has dictionary.com in Firefox too. To have it with IE is just a waste. The third item is more than likely malware that was removed but that registry string still exists. Remove it.

QUOTE(wyman @ May 25 2005, 07:54 PM)

*

It stops them from starting up with the computer. You can still access them from the start menu. This will give you more memory and better performance.

5.  Your suggestion to eliminate RealPlayer and replace it with "REAL ALTERNATIVE" sounds good because I agree that it bombards you with advertisements - BUT can Real Alternative burn music in .MP3 format???  If not, what do you advise???
*

Check the freeware thread. Even Winamp can burn mp3 cds.

6.  With respect to "O9" items I will check my Tools Items and see which ones I don't need and get rid of them.  Thx.

*

Sometimes malware poses as other items. You do not need to keep these, if you visit the site again and they are needed, often a newer version will be installed anyways. Thus they are.. ..dun dun dun..! Safe to remove.

Most Recently Usered. Nothing bad. Spybot would do the same.

Expect to see a lot of repeated stuff here, or jsut refer to the nearly identical log above.
