I hope you're using Firefox. Also, RAM "Optimizer" programs and myths, just like download accelerators. They do nothing, or make things worse.

Since you're on Windows 98SE, see my homepage and get the Windows 98SE Service Pack 2.0.1, it'll make your pc a LOT smoother.

I am thinking about Firefox , I will get rid of Ram Optimizer .

Thanks , YOO DA MAN........... biggrin.gif

After I install & setup Firefox can I Remove IE ? Or maybe I need to postthis on another post. smile.gif

You got to have IE. Windows Updates, just use firefox as your default browser.

Not true. IE is not required, as Automatic Updates can be used. I prefer to control my updates so I simply didn't let IE show on the desktop after installing Firefox.

Doesn't Tarun have a point , the Windows Update just sits there and at timed intervals shells to the Updates page where you pick the recommended updates.

My Updates are not active as I chose to go to the Download page myself...when I choose to update smile.gif
Thanx Twisted Metal......

Is the Windows Updates the only issue if I uninstall IE ?
I am trying to think what programs I have that require IE..(Shareware programs).

It does not install everything though. Only what is needed. That 98SE SP 2.0.1 is awesome. I highly recommend it.

IE is actually used all over the place, McAfee, Norton, and a few others use it as well. I just hide it because trying to remove/uninstall it is sloppy and not fun. If you have XP you can use nLite which can make it easier as you can make an install that never installs IE. wink.gif

OK , I downloaded the 98SE update 2.0.1 and FireFox and I think I will will try Thunderbird also.
I will install FireFox and Thunderbird then run the 98SE Update.... dry.gif

I hope everything goes good ...I will keep posted....
I have one concern with running the 98SE Update though, I like the icons I have now (downloaded from icon packager) but the update pack has xp icons. I think these are optional , does that interpret as : I can manually load these? dry.gif

If it is optional, simply uncheck the option to install it. ^^

Whichever you want. I did see you on Lunarsoft stirring up the forums. I was all "YAY!".
SkeeterBeeter
Glad you like ...Thought I would stir things up a bit with things that have been lurking in my mind for awhile..anywho...this firefox browser I like but my ISP (peoplepc) is rather annoying..It has a homepage that is setup for IE .
BTW .. I have setup FireFox as default browser but (lets me see , how do I put this)..I want to open Firefox after I connect to internet(peoplepc) as my homepage..without having to click on the desktop Firefox...I might not be clear on this....

Also,how did you hide IE?

Firefox homepage: Tools > Options > General > Homepage

Hide IE from desktop (YAY): Open IE >Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced tab, and look for the last item under the category Browsing. Clear the checkbox next to "Show Internet Explorer on the Desktop," then click OK (or Apply, then OK).

Well , I am going to have to connect from peoplepc then minimize and then click desktop icon for FireFox. Unless , I open an html folder or file then FireFox will open it.

I like the FireFox and the Thunderbird .....GREAT RECOMMENDATION!!!!!!!
Also , Tarun , I installed the 98SE 2.0.1 update and disabled the Windows 2000 colors , everything loaded without a hitch....So I am all set.....Thanx Again ! biggrin.gif

I also created a folder to store OE & IE and zipped it , just in case I need IE for future. Later !

PeoplePC forces you to use IE? You can't close it when it opens? No dial-up networking shortcut to connect?
