Came across these hidden files in C:\ earlier tonight.

8 sqmdata.sqm files, and 8 sqmnoopt.sqm files.

New to me, and if they're new to anyone else, a google search took me to "Tech Support Guy" forum where someone else was wondering what they are.

This quote from the answer that was posted by one Kikicool.

"Figured this out with the help of a fellow nerd last night. If anyone else experiences this build up of files, it is down to Windows Live Messenger! The files are part of the Customer Experience Improvement Program and can be stopped by going to Help -> Customer Experience Improvement Program then turning the fecker off!"

"Customer Experience Improvement Program"?

Why do they feel the need to hide this stuff? <_<

The same thing I'd like to know about WMP hiding the folder.jpg file and some other related stuff, however with WinXP and newer MS is good at hiding stuff.
Complexity of incoherent design.

For the MSN's sqm problem this works well too: create a file with extension BAT (eg. del_hid.bat) and put this in there:

@Echo off
attrib -H c:\*.sqm
del c:\sqm*.sqm /Q
Exit

More details can be found eg. on this EGGHEADCAFE.COM's thread :

In general the same applies to all other unwanted hidden files : you can add many other DEL lines in your choice of BAT file, and then add a link to this BAT file in your STARTUP folder ( From WIDNOWS help ):
- Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.
- On the Start Menu tab, click Classic Start menu, and then click Customize. This changes the style of the Start menu. Click Advanced.
- In the Start Menu folder, find the program you want to start each time you start Windows (in our case it would be del_hid.bat, and in the Startup folder located in the Programs folder, place a shortcut to this BAT file.

Hi. Thanks for the link. :)
The SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-)

Has any thought been added on having these sqmdata*.* files cleaned out in a next update for CCleaner?

That would be a task for TwistedMetal to include it into his winapp2.ini ;)
