Hi,

http://www.acesoft.net/index.dat%20viewer/....dat_viewer.htm pointed me to the right direction.

I've selected the index.dat checkbox in CCleaner. Analyzed and deleted content, did a reboot.

Still winspy was able to display the content of index.dat - because CCleaner did even not delete the index.dat file.

C:\documents and settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

Scary winspy! Using CCleaner 1.38.485

Apon restart the file would have been recreated, that is why you can still find and open the index.dat file.

Does your Index.dat file still contains the same entries before and after restarting, or is it empty?

Ok - upgraded to latest CCleaner version.

Afer a reboot it's still there - full with 800+ entries.

Btw. my path is: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\tolomir\Lokale Einstellungen\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

Maybe CCleaner cannot handle the German path?

Well, I just checked and it deletes it all on our pc, so maybe it does have a bug with regards to the language.

Just check what index.dat files CCleaner says it will delete:

Run CCleaner, click analyze, look through the list untill you find index.dat (there should be two entries),
where does CCleaner find the .dat files (if it finds them)?

It "finds" just this one:
Zum Löschen markiert: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Tolomir\Cookies\index.dat

Not the important one:
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Tolomir\Lokale Einstellungen\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat

\Lokale Einstellungen\

IMO this is the problem. Since in my italian XP i must
translate "Local Settings" (and also "Application Data")
for get CCleaner working in such paths.

Of course this problem doesn't affect english users. :unsure:

Edit: Let's see for example Dr.Watson logs.

In winsys.ini we have this entry:
FileKey6=%allusersprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson|*.log

In this way doesn't work for me.
I must edit that string as follow:
FileKey6=%allusersprofile%\Dati Applicazioni\Microsoft\Dr Watson|*.log

Tried some google searches, it seems doesn't exist in Windows any
environment variable available for "Application Data" and "Local Settings" :(

I see, so in IE internet setting and options, I could change the path to be the original english path for that.

I wonder though, why winspy can identify the index.dat + path properly.

This is from my registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache\Paths\path1]
"CacheLimit"=dword:0003c02e
"CachePath"="C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Tolomir\\Lokale Einstellungen\\Temporary Internet Files\\Content.IE5\\Cache1"

This could be a way to identify the location of the index.dat properly. If gives you the proper path to Content.IE5

Sorry, i'm not so skilled to help you in such kind of registry tweaks :(

Anyway, actually my CCleaner too doesn't detect and doesn't clean any index.dat file.

I can't see any index.dat file clicking Analyze. But using another application i can delete
index.dat (and also view their contents before and after reboot) with no problems.
So i think isn't at all needed make any Windows Registry tweak. Just wait and see
if some developer and/or skilled user can kindly give us some input... :huh:

Yep, that was directed to the developer(s).

Right now I've added that folder I've mentioned to the custom folders in CCleaner.

Still I would really appreciate some update for CCleaner (hey I'm a donator :-)

Thanks for your help, Whiteshark, though.
