how do i set firefox to have larger text and it stay that way each time i open my browser? i usually have to go to view-text size-increase and hit it twice. but when i close the browser and reopen i have to do it again.

I don't know, but I do know you can hold down ctrl and move your scrool wheel on your mouse. :P (not what you wanted, but a faster way to do it)

To change it permanently go into:
Tools->Options->Content->Fonts & Colors, click Advanced

Then from the screenshots below you'll get the idea:
