i installed recuva the latest version but it fails to run. it installs and everything but when i click on the icon, nothing comes up. my antispyware detects "stopcc.dll" as spyware. is it really spyware? even if it allow the .dll file to run, nothing happens.

You should probably tell us which antispyware program you are running.
StopCC.dll is NOT part of Recuva.
I don't know where stopCC.dll comes from. I can only find two hit for it on Google both on foreign anti-spyware forums. by the end of their posts it is removed!
You may be infected I suggest you submit a HijackThis log in the Following section of the CCleaner forums.
