I am unable to remove my temporary internet files. When I use CCleaner, it stops after a few progress blocks, then it closes down and displays the an error message saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have the same problem when I use the disk cleanup on Windows. On the first screen when I begin the scan, it closes down once it begins "scanning internet temp files", and the same error message follows. I also have tried removing them manually when I run %temp%, and again, I get the same sort of error message from Windows. When I search temporary files using Windows search, Windows explorer closes down when I attempt to open the folder or to delete it, displaying the same error message that it has encountered a problem. Using the internet options method, it does not remove all the temp internet files evidenced by their existence when I search them or run %temp%.

All spyware programs I have used (Symantec, Ad-aware, AVG) either freeze, or are forced to close down once it begins scanning the internet temp files. I have to stop the scan before it reaches this point in order to remove any spyware. I have tried all these options in safe mode, and my system restore is disabled. Still, it seems I cannot come within 10 feet of my internet temp files. I have a fairly new laptop computer, and this dilemma has been occuring after a recent malware infection (DirectVideo codec malware) a couple weeks ago. The day I was infected I lost my internet connnection, and I have been using another computer with an internet connection to write to the forum. Any help would be much appreciated, this has been a real inconvenience for me.

Ok, so the computer still cannot connect to the internet right?
If not we are going to have to do some things a little differently.

Your going to need either a cd burner or a flashdrive.(which I assume you have since you gave me a hijackthis log.)

I want you to run that scan all of the way through ok, if it freezes then fine but do not try to stop it.

I also want you to run this on it:

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:

• Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  
• This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  
• Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  
• Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  
• Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  
• Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  
• When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  
• Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  
• Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  
• Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  
• After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.

The superantispyware "complete" scan was able to scan all the way through without freezing and did find some trojans. The drcureit "express" scan works; however, the full scan closes down just as it starts each time I try it. It displays the same error message that the program has experienced a problem and needs to close. The problems with my temp internet files continue. I still cannot run the basic disk cleanup or even open or delete them manually. Btw, I am still disconnected from the internet and yes I do have a flash drive. Also, your help is much appreciated.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
