Howdy!
Hate to just drop in here with this problem but could somebody be so nice and check my hjt log. I got this virus maybe a week ago trough msn messenger and because of my own stupidity. This popup keeps coming up whenever I boot my computer. The virus also installed an application called 888bar which i removed from the add/remove-applications. I would highly appreciate any help on this problem! Pretty Please with sugar on top.

Welcome to the forum.

Download Superantispyware

• Load Superantispyware and click the check for updates button.
  
• Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
  
• Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
  
• Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  
• Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
  
• Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  
• Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
  
• Copy and paste the log onto the forum.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware

• Load AVG antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  
• After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  
• Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
  
• Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG antispyware will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.
  
• Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file which you can then save to the Desktop and post back

Note that this is not AVG antivirus but the program formally known as Ewido.

Please post the AVG log and a new hijackthis log.

Ok, I scanned with AVG but.. in the end it suggested that I "ignore once" everything and to me it seemed a bit foolish so instead I selected "quarantine". I hope i didn't mess things up, it just seemed like the reasonable thing to do (thenagain I suppose that's what got me in trouble in the first place). However here are the logs requested.

Oh bugger I just realised that since the action I took was not to ignore the text "ignore" after each line is now incorrect. How stupid of me Well here are the logs anyway. And sorry for failing to follow the simplest instructions ever.

All of that stuff needs to be deleted anyway.

Download this file - combofix.exe and save it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When it's finished, it will produce a log of what it found. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply

Run Kaspersky WebScanner

• Please go HERE and click Kaspersky Online Scanner
  
• Read and Accept the Agreement
  
• You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  
• If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  
• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  
• When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  
• Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  
• Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  
• When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.
  
• Paste kaspersky log onto forum.

Post both of the logs from the scans above and then post a new hijackthis log.

Find and delete this file:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\mc.exe

Then open hijackthis and do a system scan. Check off the following entries:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winosz32 - winosz32.dll (file missing)

Then press fixed checked and reboot.
Let me know if everything seems back to normal.(your not quite done but the computer should be back to normal)

Well, for starters the popup didn't show up anymore when I rebooted
Other then that I'll need to wait a few hours so to see if it shows up while I'm away.

Alright, go ahead and clean up your system restore:

Click Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > SystemRestore

Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.

Ok, I just cleaned up the system restore.
Everything seems to be in order, no popups showed up while I was away or nothing Is this it for me then? And can these steps be applied on my friends computer as well, him being the one that gave me the virus(es) in the first place?

Its better to have him come and post a log of his own. Just in case he has different infections.

Alright. I think I'll have to do it for him since he doesn't know that much about computers, just the basic browsing

It seems now that the only "negative" affect of all this is that the cooler fan seems to be on all the time when before it was only on when something was done on the computer. Can you check the hjt log just once more to make sure there's nothing there causing it, please. Thank you soooo much for everything
