I started getting runtime errors on my IE6 and on Explorer. I ran HijackThis and the log is below. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Download AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Load AVG antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
  • Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG antispyware will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file which you can then save to the Desktop and post back
Note that this is not AVG antivirus but the program formally known as Ewido.

Post the ewido log and a new hijackthis log.

I ran the AVG Anti-Spyware and then HijackThis again. Still getting the runtime error. Below are the logs for both.

Please visit VirusTotal and have this file scanned:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tgs.dll

Open the scan site and press Browse, locate the file and double click it to load the path into the Virus scan window then press Send, copy and paste the scan results back on here, let us know if you have any problems finding the file.

Looks like it found something... should I delete or try to find something to repair it?

Yeah lets go ahead and get rid of it.

Download Killbox from Here

Run Killbox by clicking the killbox.exe file on the desktop

In the Full Path of File to Delete window type (or copy and paste)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tgs.dll

Select the options Delete on reboot and Unregister .dll Before Deleting

Click the button: Single File and it should then flash green.

Then press the Delete File button (Red Circle with a White X).
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.
-----------

Once your computer is back up from the reboot please run this scan:

Run Kaspersky WebScanner
  • Please go HERE and click Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • Read and Accept the Agreement
  • You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  • Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  • When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.
  • Paste kaspersky log onto forum.
Post the kaspersky log and a new hijackthis log.

I recently had the same problem with IE7 (Internet Explorer 7). I got an e-mail from someone with a Holiday greeting card. When I (stupidly) clicked on it, it sent me to www.american-greetings.biz. (This is NOT the same as www.americangreetings.com.) At the .biz address, it prompted me to update Flash, which I (stupidly) did. Apparently this downloaded the file tgs.dll, and installed it as an Add-On for IE7. Then anytime I opened up IE, it would crash within a minute. This was painful, because when Explorer crashes you can't use My Computer or Task Manager.

Apparently there is some kind of virus inside tgs.dll. The simplest way to deal with in IE7 is to disable it as an add-on. To do this, click on Tools, then Manage Add-Ons, then Enable or Disable Add-Ons. Look under File for tgs.dl . (In my case, it said the Name was ReadFile Class, Publisher RFA Inc). Click on this line, then click on Disable button. You may have to do this several times to get quick enough to do it before IE blows up.

There may be a legitimate version of tgs.dll, but I haven't found it on the web. Also, Norton Antivirus does NOT catch this problem.
