I've just tried several freeware alternatives, unfortunately, they dont work properly on that nano, either said unknown device or "new version", it seems itunes is the only choice left to me:(

I believe that winamp has an ipod plug in.
Also you might want to look here:
http://www.snapfiles...d-software.html
(its a list of programs specifically for the ipod).

Itunes is the main reason that I will not buy an ipod, unless I by a mac first.(Itunes seems to be much better on a mac than it is on windows)

Have you tried this program http://www.yamipod.c...es/screenshots/ Personally I like my Creative Labs Zen 30Gb. Not only do I have all my music and Podcast on it but can even backup the My Documents folder on my computer to it.

Do you have llinks point them out? I'm a foobar user, that might help.

You may consider Rockbox for you iPod. It's a firmware update that allows you to play FLAC files. You don't use iTunes at all with it - you just drag the mp3s from your PC to your MP3 player.

iTunes is hideous.

bad thing about the Rockbox is that a lot of the decoding code is unoptimized which means it will eat up the battery quite quickly :(
