AVG antivirus keeps popping up every 15 minutes saying threat detected and although i move them to Virus Vault, it appears again 15 minutes later with a different file. It says Trojan Horse Dialer.COH

I ran Hijackthis and Kaspersky on my computer and here are their log files, any help would be appreciated in the permanent removal of this virus.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Run BitDefender Online Scanner
  • Using internet Explorer please go HERE to run BitDefender's Online scan.
  • Read the terms and then click I Agree
  • You may receive a Security Warning about the BitDefender ActiveX control, If you do, please allow it to install.
  • On the scanning Options screen, Press Click Here To Scan and then follow the on screen prompts.
  • Once bit defender is finished scanning your computer it will automatically remove the infections. Once the removal process is finished press the close button and a dialog box will appear asking if you want to send your scan log back to the makers of bitdefender. You do not have to do this but what you do want to do is press the button that says "view log" and then copy and paste that log into notepad and save it to your desktop as bitdefender.txt.
  • Reboot your computer
After the reboot:

Download AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Load AVG antispyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
  • Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG antispyware will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file which you can then save to the Desktop and post back
Note that this is not AVG antivirus but the program formally known as Ewido.

Post the bitdefender log, the AVG log, and a new hijackthis log.

Its better anyway.
Bitdefender actually cleans the infections it finds. Kaspersky is just for me to see the log and make sure you 100% clean. :) Make sure you run avg antispyware as well.

Nice job. B)

I want you to run one more scan and then whatever is left just clean up manually.

Download Superantispyware
  • Load Superantispyware and click the check for updates button.
  • Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
  • Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
  • Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  • Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
  • Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  • Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
  • Copy and paste the log onto the forum.

Nicely done. :)

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Open hijackthis and choose to do a system scan only. Then check off the following entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{FDE3577A-6254-181C-4E11-339E4F746BD3} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {755bbd1a-aa59-456c-afeb-b4c42c4dcb6f} - (no file)

O18 - Protocol: CDS300 - {AD43AA67-6860-4531-AC8A-0E68F9CF023E} - D:\Player\__CDS2.dll (file missing)

Now press fixed checked and reboot your computer.
-----------------
Once your computer is back up lets clear your system restore points just in case they were infected. To do this follow the below instructions:

Click Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > SystemRestore

Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Next goto Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

Click OK, Disk Cleanup will open and start calculating the amount of space that can be freed, Once thats finished it will open the Disk Cleanup options screen, click the More Options tab then click Clean up on the system restore area and choose Yes at the confirmation window which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created.
-----------------

Let me know if your computer seems back to normal or if your still having any problems with it.

Hi thanks for the help, I guess now i just have to wait and see if it's gone. Just a few things, I stopped all processes that initiated on startup in msconfig, do you think it would be safe to enable them again, also is it safe to delete super anti spyware, delete hijackthis, all reports and logs, smitfraud and ccleaner, and maybe even avg antispyware? which ones do you recommend i keep if any? I dont like to clutter my computer too much more than i already have. and if i uninstall will the work we've done to get rid of the virus stay in place?

What did you disable in msconfig?

I would keep ccleaner and run it everyone once in a while since it cleans all the junk files off your computer. It just cleans temp files/logs from programs ect.

You should also keep all the spyware programs I had you download except smitfraudfix. They don't slow your computer down any and once the trial for AVG is over they wont be running real time. It would be a good idea to scan with them every now and then to make sure nothing slips in.

Look here for a great guide to computer security:

sorry that i forgot to mention about the msconfig, it was the first step i took when the baloon kept popping up in the startup tray um i disabled everything.

avgcc
ElbyCheck
jusched
ctfmon
ElbyCheck (don't know why there are 2)
iTunesHelper
NBJ
NeroCheck
qttask
SOUNDMAN
tss
VTTimer
Adobe Reader Speed Launch
hp psc 1000 series
hpoddt01.exe
Microsoft Office
Adobe Gamma
csrss

Also since i have loaded on the antispywares etc, these new startup items have appeared with checks next to them:
ctfmon
avgas
SUPERAntiSpyware

I would rather that superantispyware and Avg anti spyware did not start up automatically and just for me to do manual scans etc. Is the best option for that to go through preferences in the software or to deslect from the startup menu?

thanks

You need to reenable all of those processes.
If you want after you reenable everything, reboot post a new hijackthis log. Then I can offer a few suggestions to help you cut down on running processes.

Superantispyware and avg antispyware both have options to disable running on start up in their options menu.(better to go through that way)

Ut oh.
I didn't pay much attention to the stuff you said you disabled and one of them was a trojan. :( For future reference never disable anything in msconfig when you get a log annalyzed. I should have noticed that things were disabled but sometimes I overlook it.

Lets clean that up real quick:

Download Killbox from Here

Run Killbox by clicking the killbox.exe file on the desktop

In the Full Path of File to Delete window type (or copy and paste)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe

Select the options Delete on reboot

Click the button: Single File and it should then flash green.

Then press the Delete File button (Red Circle with a White X).
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.

Post a new hijackthis log after the reboot.

Maybe that file was already deleted and hijackthis just isn't showing it.
Search for this file and see if you can find it:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\tss.exe

If you find it delete it. If not delete it in hijackthis by checking it off and pressing fixed checked. After removing it with hijackthis post a new log and I will post some suggestions.
