I haven't bothered updating since version 5.11 simply because I don't want the super bloated and ultra slow loading .NET version of the configuration GUI.
Complexity of incoherent design.

It's bloated all right. I just got a 'new' (used from a friend) 9600XT, transferred from nVIDIA to ATi... I thought nVIDIA had messed things up with their 'improved' control center... but Catalyst is pretty bad. .NET, so it uses lots of resources, takes a minute to load in my computer, etc. etc.

You might want to try ATi Tray Tools, it offers pretty much the same capability. Or the Omega drivers, if you know what you're doing.

Unless you're a gamer, I don't think there's a real motive to upgrade.

Most of the fixes I've noticed when I used to upgrade the drivers all the time pertained to compatibility fixes for games.
Complexity of incoherent design.
