How to burn a DVD

well, ive been trying to burn a DVD off of my PC and its not working.
ive tried using Nero 7ultra and also alcohol 120%.
if anyone knows how to burn one using nero, let me know.
BTW*, the movies use codecs :D

If you have 2 drives then burn a copy on the fly. Be careful of buffer underruns. Also the 2 drives need to be on seperate IDE channels. In this configuration that will reduce overhead. Alcohol 120% is awesome app. Make sure that your ASPI driver is working correctly. There is a util in Nero that can check for that. As for Codecs, I go to Free Codecs.

no, i have an .avi movie and it uses divx i think as a codec.
well if i then burn that avi to a dvd, it wont work in a dvd player cuz it needs a codec.

are you sure it uses DivX? if you have Media Player Classic, you can check by clicking Properties. and also, .avi files are not only used to store DivX files but WMP, H.264, and many others.

i personally am not sure what Nero uses to parse and burn the .avi file to a DVD. if it uses VFW(Video for Windows), then ffdshow might be your best shot. if it uses a Codec, then ffdshow as well. or you could grab the official DivX codec from filehippo(although that one doesn't uninstall itself properly).

most of my movies that i have use divX or Xvid but i dont know why they havent come out with a converter/burner that will convert any format to dvd no matter what codec it uses.
if anyone knows of one, let me know.
im even willing to pay for this.

Too bad DVDZip that I noticed earlier today works in complete reverse of what you want. :P

If you find out how to convert those files let me know because I'd like to burn a DVD that has music videos of unsigned bands. ;)

here is a guide to convert avi to dvd, but the tool referred needs to pay.

If you cannot play them on your dvd player, is it one which plays DVD-R and DVD+R format?

ill have to pull that program back out and figure it out!
i forgot all about it, thanks.
i was using nero to convert them but it wouldnt work unless the dvd player had codecs in it which i dont doubt some do by now!

its not working, i keep getting an access violation 0000000, im puzzled..

Follow the guide while doing the conversion, that's what I did and it worked on the first try. Oh yeah and according to the guide you also need DVD Decrypter.

theres another guide thats titled avi divX and Xvid to DVD but it says i have to run a series of programs to convert and such and the first program was gonna take 20+ hrs..

I know a software maybe you can try.It's WinAVI.It can convert avi to dvd in very fast speed.After you try,you will know.Also you'd better try the trial version first to see if it really can help you.
And last,make sure you have install right codec(divx/xvid).
