Use the tutorial below to increase page speeds up to 4 times, making firefox the fastest browser.

1) Open Firefox and enter about:config in the address bar to bring up the Firefox configuration page.

Change these attribute values by double-clicking on them.
You can use the "filter" mechanism at the top of the page to find these attributes quickly:

network.http.pipelining
change the value to true

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
change the value to 34

browser.turbo.enabled
change the value to true

If you can't find any of these values, right click in the browser window and select new => to create a new value
(boolean for network.http.pipelining and browser.turbo.enabled, and integer for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests).

Now close and restart Firefox to see it's amazing capabilities!
it actually did speed it up some..
try it out, see for yourselves :D

Have a look at "Firefox Tweak Guide" page nine.

The whole article is a good read in being a learning experience about FF. :)

Could be place-bo effect, heh. :P

I wonder if there are any side-effects.

I use Tweak Network for that. It seems to me Firefox works faster.

Actually, after about 10 timed tests with a clean cache I determined turbo (had to add that value) true was slower. Also, if you have the extension Fasterfox, you can change settings such as requests, by enabling Custom under options.

Thanks for the tips guys!! ;)
Don't know about FF on my PC but it sure as heck sped up FF Portable. Normally FF Portable, for me, would take 30-40 second to load, now it's up and running in under 5 seconds. :D

I usually put such user-tweaks into the user.js file (C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.default\user.js). That way you can easily revert to the default setting by removing the entries.

Or you can type " about:config " (no quotes) into your url search window and add to bookmarks or even a new tab. :)

Those tweaks have been around for a while and they have been proven to be useless and even negative for FF performance. Check this out from the FF forums http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...ight=pipelining

I think the best way to speed up firefox would be firetune. Its the only thing that I actually saw a speed increase with. When I used fasterfox things actually got slower. I've heard that firefox 2 supposedly has all the tweaks firetune was doing by default.(that could be wrong though I read it on a forum somewhere)

That program just loads firefox into memory when not in use so it starts up quicker. (If its the program I think it is)Its not needed as much as it was before firefox 1.5 because firefox used to load 10x slower then IE or opera.:D

There is a reason those "options" are not on by default, they make your connection unstable and place extra load on the server.
