I installed the program without probelm...analyzed my computer without problem.....once I click to start cleanup, the program froze, would not exit unless ctrl-alt-del. Then program said it had stopped responding. am running XP with most current version available of CCleaner

welcome to the CC forums. 
how long did you let it run? try letting it run for about 10-15 min.
if that doesnt work, try running it in safe mode.
and, if after trying that it still doesnt work, we can try debugging it.
