About that Yahoo toolbar...

OK, so CCleaner inserts the Yahoo toolbar. How do I get it under control? First, it somehow hijacked by toolbar settings so that in View\Toolbars, I can only turn my Google toolbar on or off by clicking on the words "Yahoo! toolbar" and Yahoo is activated/deactivated by the word "Google." Things weren't like this before CCleaner was installed. Second, when I try to deactivate the Yahoo! toolbar, it's pretty much impossible. I turn it off and check "Lock the Toolbars," and next time I go anywhere near CCleaner or its website [and who knows where else yet], there's that damn Yahoo! toolbar again.

Like I said above: How do I get this back under my control?

From now on just visit the official CCleaner download page located at http://www.ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp and download either the Slim build (English language only), or Basic build and you won't have any Yahoo! Toolbar. If you don't want the Toolbar on your system just uninstall Yahoo! Toolbar from Add or Remove Programs.

IE toolbars do often get mixed up due to minor corruption of the related Registry keys. It is not particularly a CCleaner or Yahoo toolbar issue.

I suggest you FIRST close all browser windows (important), then uninstall BOTH CCleaner and the Google toolbar

Reinstall the Google toolbar, then (assuming you prefer CC without Yahoo!) go here and download and install CC Basic which does NOT contain the toolbar.

Tell us how that goes.

Whoops, our posts crossed, Andavari... ;)

I have downloaded the latest CCleaner version without Yahoo Toolbar, but still cannot uninstall the Yahoo Toolbar which I mistakenly downloaded with the CCleaner version before that one. Now how do I uninstall it? It is impossible to do it through Add/Remove Programs.

Go to your Add/Remove Control panel and Remove Yahoo Toolbar.. If you want the Yahoo Toolbar back on your computer just go to the Yahoo.com web site and reinstall it.

If you look again at johnr's post you will see he has already tried that, which is why I have suggested he reinstalls over the top of the one has has to try and fix the uninstaller.

Hi all, I'm new to the forums but have been using CCleaner for some time now. I love it! My problem is the same as Johnr's post. I cannot remove the toolbar and have tried reinstalling the older version of CCleaner and searching for the actual yahoo toolbar. I'm surprised that CCleaner is not adding it to the remove list. I quite disappointed as I usually brag about how good CCleaner works.

Any other ideas on how to remove this unwanted toolbar? Thx in advance.

Download hijackthis and do a scan. Then look in the log at your 02 entries. Any with yahoo put checkmarks next to and then press "fix checked".

That will at least get it out of your browser. :)

Then delete the file for yahoo toolbar in C:/program files. Then run CCleaner "issues" to clear the rest.
