Hi Sam

Norton isnt helping you much there if its only giving that information, we would need to know the Virus name and the file location to be able to help, As far as I know there isnt a virus named download but there is alot of Trojan Downloader infections around so maybe that's what it means :)

See if you can check the Alert logs in Norton to find out where the file is located and what its called and it will then make it easier as you can upload it at VirusTotal to find out what it really is.

Hi Sam

Visit VirusTotal and have the file scanned:

C:\Windows\System32\cbent.dll

Open the scan site and press Browse, locate the file and double click it to load the path into the Virus scan window then press Send, copy and paste the Virus scan results back and let us know if you have any problems finding the file.

Use the Posted Image button at the bottom of the page when you reply as that doesn't quote my response back

I have the same thing except the file itself is identified as "dxm598.dll". Norton's keeps popping up a message saying that this file is an infected file and the virus is called "download". I can't quarantine the file, delete it, rename it nothing.

I even downloaded some antispyware and registery cleaner program (then paid for it like an idiot) to remove all the antispyware that showed upon it and to clean the registery thinking if I did that then maybe I'll be able to get rid of it. Didnt help at all, just made things worse cause now I lost all my desktop icons and refresh won't work. Only can access the computer now in safe mode with command prompt.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Cee

Hello Cee, Sorry to read about your problems.
Try this guide here first ( all the stuff is free) and then see how things are. If you cannot access the internet perhaps a friend could download the setups onto a memory stick/flash pen for you.
