I ran spybot, adaware, ewido, etrust, spyware blaster, defraged, used negropt, page defrag, ccleaner (of course:)), and tuneup. nothing untowards, but still slow loading web pages. ideas?

Well your log is clean.
Is it just firefox or does IE and opera(if you have it installed) loading pages slowly as well?
For FF have you ever used firetune? If not then you may wish to try it. It speeds up FF a lot.

Well I found your problem(I think)
Its being caused by one of your extensions(the ip list https://addons.mozil...rg/firefox/590/
Read the reviews. I would uninstall it and see if that fixes it.

thanks rridgely. i read it, and i disabled it and will give it some time and will let you know if it works. i dont really need the extension though, i just thought it was interesting to try out so.......
