Hi Pho3niX

The logs looking ok, a couple of entries to fix and a few optionals

Run Hijack This and choose Do A System Scan then place a check next to these entries

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - <default> - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: AIM Search - {40D41A8B-D79B-43d7-99A7-9EE0F344C385} - (no file)

Close all open browser and other windows except for Hijack This and press the Fix Checked button

Optional Fixes

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Viewpoint is classed as Foistware and a Potentially unwanted program as its sometimes installed without the users consent, you can read Here for more information and there maybe some indications that they will move into tracking users and displaying Ad's at some stage which you can read more about Here. If you value the service they provide then it can be left on the system but if not then it can be fixed with HijackThis and removed using the Add/Remove screen (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) by removing any Viewpoint products listed.

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

this restriction can be set by malware to prevent you from changing settings like your homepage. It can also be set by you (using programs like Spybot:S&D) to prevent malware changing your settings, or System Administrators to prevent their users changing settings. If you or a system administrator didn't set that restriction then it can be fixed. If in doubt then it can be left as there is no indication that its been added by malware.

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing)

If you installed PartyPoker and wish to use it then its fine to ignore, If you didn't install it intentionally, I suggest you uninstall it via (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs), because in some cases, these programs are supported by malware and get installed without consent.

Let us know what sort of problems you are having and we maybe able to help more.

Cheers

Andy

My biggest problem has been a self/re-installing Trojan. It creates the file mgrsts.exe. I Don't know if it is Spyware/Adware related. I have ewido and it has quarantine the file, but in a few hours/days another mgrsts.exe will be detected. ewido show that the file mgrsts.exe is infected with Downloader.IstBar.er. Can you help with me this?

Yes sure we can help but Im abit confused whats making it regenerate after its been removed ,

Can you send me a sample of the file if its found again before its removed by right clicking the file and choosing Send To > then Compressed (zipped) folder, this will make a copy of the file in the same folder its in named mgrsts.zip , right click that zipped folder and choose Explore then goto file on the top bar and choose Add a Password , make the password malware all lowercase and send it to AndyManchesta(AT) hotmail.com (replace (AT) with @) and I will run it on a test machine to see what it is and how its regenerating.

For now though can you run Pandascan and Ewido then post back the logs

Run Ewido and update the definitions
  • Click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan
  • Ewido will list any infections found on the left, when the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will then display "All actions have been applied" on the right.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file which you can then save to the Desktop and post back
Next run Panda Activescan from Here.

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.

Please then post back both logs and we can take it from there

Andy

mgrsts.exe has not regenerated yet, I'll keep looking.

And Ewido found nothing, and ActiveScan found some spyware.

Thats nice to see, the items Panda found are fine as they are only cookies, use Ccleaner to remove them and remove temp files from your system.

If I can get a sample of this file it will be easier to comment as I can monitor what changes it makes when it runs, Can you run a couple more scans (they do not take long to run) :)

Download Blacklight beta HERE and save it to your desktop.
Run the program, accept statement > click next then scan
When its finished scanning exit the program and post back the log if it detects hidden files, The log is called 'fsbl-<date/time>.log' which will save to the same location as the blbeta.exe file.

Then download SilentRunners from HERE

Save it to the desktop and double-click on it to start the script. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts from your AntiVirus, please choose to allow the script to run (It might be detected because its a VB script but it's not because of the files contents). When the scan is finished, it will create a logfile on the desktop named StartUp Programs/Name/Date/Time. Please post the contents of that logfile back on here.

Let us know if you have any problems

Andy

The mgrsts.exe has not come back and I'm still watching. If it comes, I will try to get you a copy of it.

Looking good :) Posted Image

Everything looks fine so we may as well check your Add/Remove screen entries and Policy keys then just see if the file returns anytime as I cannot see any signs of infection in the logs.

Open Notepad (Start Menu > Run > Type notepad and press OK)

Copy and Paste the contents of the code box into Notepad.

regedit /e HKLM.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"
regedit /e HKCU.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"
copy HKLM.txt + HKCU.txt = result.txt
del /q HKLM.txt
del /q HKCU.txt
notepad result.txt
del /q result.txt

Goto File on the top bar and choose Save As, Change the Save As Type to All Files, Name it Check.bat then save it to your desktop

Double click Check.bat and it will export the information from the registry and write that into notepad which will open when its finished, can you post that back on here.

Then post a list of the Add/Remove screen entries,

Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the Config... (Configuration) button.
Once in the Configuration panel, click Misc Tools button.
Then click the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
The Add/Remove Programs Manager panel should appear.
In this panel click the Save list button.
Save the uninstall_list.txt file to your desktop and copy and paste the contents back.
