Hello! I have been having some issues with a newer (only a few months old) Dell Laptop - when I try to go to my homepage (msn.com), sometimes I get an error message stating "IE REQUIREMENT: Add xmlns:web to the HTML tag." and one box to click that says "OK". Should this be a concern? I have followed the spyware removal guide on this board, and have deleted anything that was found, so here is my HJT log:

Run Hijack This and choose Do A System Scan then place a check next to this entry

This restriction can be set by malware to prevent you from changing settings like your homepage. It can also be set by you (using protection programs like Spybot S&D) to prevent malware changing your settings, or System Administrators to prevent their users changing settings. If you or a system administrator didn't set that restriction then it can be fixed. If in doubt then it can be left as there is no indication that its been added by malware.

You should avoid having more than one Anti-Virus program providing Real Time protection as they can conflict with each other and use alot of system resources. If Avast & Mcafee are both providing protection then one should really be disabled and only used as an 'On-Demand' scanner which you open manually and close when its finished scanning.

Remove the version of Java installed as it's vulnerable to some infections, goto Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove any versions of Java Runtime Environment (J2SE) that are in the list, reboot the PC and download the latest version from Here

I cannot really help on the error message as its not something I've ever noticed but maybe another member on here can help you with that, it does sound abit like a page or scripting fault on their side as the html tags are written into the page, does this only happen with MSN.com and how often does it occur ?

EDIT: Do you still have the ConsumerInput Toolbar installed ? I can see its 04 run entries but not its 02 or 03 (BHO or Toolbar) entry so Im not sure if its a leftover or if the Toolbar is still on your system

I disabled Avast's On-access Protection as you suggested as well. I un-installed the previous version of Java and have downloaded the new version via the link you provided. About the ConsumerInput Toolbar - that's for MyPoints, and I thought that I still had it installed, but I don't see the toolbar itself. Should I uninstall it then re-install it, or can I just re-install it? I wanted to keep that, I like the MyPoints program a lot and have gotten lots of gift cards for free, so I want to have it. Also, about the error I'm getting - it does only happen with MSN.com, but it doesn't happen very often - once every couple weeks, maybe. Should I post on another board about that error message? Hi Melissa

You may need to reinstall the Toolbar as it is missing the 02 and 03 entry, Im not sure how that would effect your points so you may have to check that first on their site as I only tested it quickly yesterday to see what it was I noticed the logo on the site has Alpha under the name so it appears to be in the testing stage at present and the 04 entries on mine when I installed it was abit different to yours even though they were the same filenames so maybe its been updated recently.

Regarding the html error try resetting your IE security settings and see if that helps

Open a I.E browser window then goto Tools on the top bar then Internet Options

• Goto The Advanced Tab and Press Restore Defaults
  
• Goto The Security Tab and Press Custom Level then press Reset and Yes on the pop up confirmation box, then press OK to close the Security Settings screen.
  
• Finally Press the Apply button then Press OK to Close The Internet Options screen.

If its still present consider posting it on another board here as it will get noticed by more members and guests so maybe someone can give you some detailed advise on whats causing it.
