When you buy a new OEM computer (eg. Dell, HP, Gateway, or whatever) it comes preinstalled with a bunch of crap.

Hi Blake, Welcome to the forum

With it being 1 day old there's nothing showing that can be removed to speed things up as most of the startup entries relate to protection programs. The version of Java is out of date so thats worth removing and updating to the latest version because some of the older versions are being exploited by malware, it might be worth running a full Test at the PC Pitstop site as it may give some details if any problems are found.

Remove Java (J2SE) from the Add/Remove screen (Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs), reboot and then download the latest version from Here.

Then register with PCPitStop and run the full tests here:

http://www.pcpitstop...top/default.asp

Click Test this system, it then may prompt you to install a ActiveX control , click Install if you get the option, then click Let's Go. When the tests are complete, a results page will pop up. Click Share these results with TechExpress on the menu then copy the URL provided and post it back, It should look like this:

TechExpress link for your current results:

Cheers

Andy

Personally, I would have reinstalled the operating system if possible with a clean copy that dont come bundled with crap.

To bad this isnt possible without rebuying windows. The restore discs that come with these computers actually have the software on them as well.

Ok here are some suggestions I can make to help you out.

1. Uninstall Quicktime and Realplayer and use the alternatives with media player classic.

This will eliminate the following processes and still allow you to play these file types.(even stream the content from websites)
C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe

Real Alternative
http://www.free-code...Alternative.htm

Quicktime alternative
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickT...Alternative.htm

2. Since Mcaffee is probably just a trial I would uninstall that and grab this free 1 year offer of Etrust antivirus. This program uses less recources than mcaffee.
http://www.my-etrust.com/SubscriptCenter/M...gistration.aspx

Mcaffee has a lot of processes because its doing a lot of uselss things(like pop up blocker. IE has pop up blocking built in.)

I highly suggest you get etrust and then get windows defender for spyware protection.

After you do that I suggest you run ccleaner and take a look at the spyware removal thread. This has some programs you can use to keep this new pc spyware free.

Here is a topic with suggestions for great free programs for a new computer.(things like photos, office substitutes, media players, ect)

Also I think you should look at this post on how to get rid of adds, pop ups, and keep your pc off dangerous sites.

Basically pc pitstop told you to run windows update and to defrag.
Let me know if after you do all of the above you think your pc is running better. :D
