I'm going to submit the 'startup list' option scan log from HijackThis here. I need someone who knows anything about trojans that rename themselves and replace your legit programs. Also, are their trojans that use Azureus, MSN Messenger, Office 2003? I ran CCleaner and found that these are listed in Cleaner settings>Applications list. I don't have these programs, as far as I know(I did do a search for them), so they shouldn't be in there, right?
Another problem, I uninstalled Mcafee a few weeks ago and searched out any leftover files it left behind because I needed the RAM. There are still Mcafee processes running on my computer that I can't seem to get rid of no matter what I do. I don't even have it anymore, do they usually leave running processes on people's computers?
Yet another, this sounds wierd but, who knows, it may be legit...when I use the option "Open with..." to open a file, on the list of optional file opener programs is a file Named "Dummy". This opens what I see as Spybot. Is this normal? and I don't see anything in my 'Program Files' folder called "Dummy", but their it is, in my 'Open with...' list.
Frustrated...

The Startup List looks fine, its possible to get a trojan that will overwrite genuine system files but it doesnt happen that often because most of the system files are essential and the side effects of overwriting one would be obvious such as Blue screen crashes and error messages, Virus/ Trojan infections that rename themselves is very common, CWS, Elite, Vundo, Qoologic and many others use random named files that can change at every reboot or change when try to delete them, I'm not sure why those entries would appear on your Applications list if you do not have them installed, Maybe someone else who is more familiar with the program can help you with that.

Mcafee still has running services in your log which can be removed if you have removed if from the pc, Post a Hijack This log and we can remove them. It didnt look like there was any AntiVirus protection products installed except for the McAfee entries so you might want to consider installing some free AV programs if you think the pc is infected.

Your right it does sound abit weird

Spybot does use dummy files to replace Adware/Spyware components with harmless files so the Ad-supported software continues to work (1, 2) but I dont think it should be on a right click menu, you will find the dummies folder inside Spybots. Is it a text file that has that 'open with' option or another extention ?

Lets start with some scanners and see whats revealed.

Download Ewido Anti-Malware from HERE

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard"
From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"),
Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click Complete System Scan.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select Remove and check the boxes Perform action with all infections and Create encrypted backup before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on Save Report. This will create a text file that you can save to the desktop and post back

Next run Panda Activescan from Here.

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.

Finally can you check some of the Open With reg keys and post back the results:

Can you open Notepad (Start Menu > run > type notepad and press OK)

Then copy and paste the contents of the code box into Notepad:

Can you post the results back with the Panda scanlog, Ewido log and a Hijack This log and it should make it clearer whats causing the problems.
