i have been using Disk Cleanup a fair bit lately as my hard drives are getting fuller. after installing CCleaner and using the "Cleaner" and "Issues" options with all the default boxes ticked, straight afterwards Disk Cleanup would not work. it would tell me how much disk space i could save from comressing files but simply would not carry out the command to do so, even when left for hours to do the job. i may go back and use system restore to get it working again. any ideas for a better solution? thanks so much.

This is usually caused by Disk Cleanup's compression algorithm. To fix it, disable compression.

Save the following as disablediskcleanupcompression.reg and then double click to import it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files]
