I just bought a new computer and haven't got chance to enjoy it before the annoying popup came up asking to install Winspyware2006.
Searching online to seek solution led me to this forum. I am really impressed by the people who are selflessly working here for other people who need help.

Below is the Jijack This log of my computer. Please advise me what I should do next. //appreciate.

Hi Lyjun99, Welcome To The Forum :)

You have Trojan Vundo showing in the log and maybe also Trojan Conhook, Id like you to try this fixtool first then if it fails to remove the infection we can get the big guns out :)

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Thanks

Andy

Andy,
Thank you so much. You are my hero. :D
I can see that awtsp.dll was removed, which had caused my Mcafee reminding me all the time before I ran Vundofix program.

Please check my Hijack This list again to see what I need to do next.

Thanks again.

Lyjun99

Hi lyjun99 :)

Glad it went well, The credit goes to Atribune for the fixtool :)

Its showing you have an older version of Java installed (1.4.2.3), some older versions are being exploited by malware especially by Vundo so its worth removing that from the Add/Remove screen and install the latest version from Here

QuickTime tray icon can be stopped as the movies will still automatically play when they are run. To stop it coming back right click the Blue Quicktime Icon in the system tray then click Quicktime Preferences. Goto the Advanced tab and Uncheck the 'Install Quicktime Icon In System Tray' box then press Apply and OK and fix this line in the log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Then run Panda Activescan from Here.

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.

Andy,
Thanks!
I didn't see the Quicktime icon in the System Tray (Maybe I didn't find the right place. I searched online and found that it is a area in the Tool bar where the Clock appears, right? I don't see any Quicktime icon anywhere in the toolbar. ).

Following is report given by the Panda Actvivescan according to your instruction.
Please help. Thanks a million.

Hi Lyjun99

The Panda log doesnt look that bad, it mostly found cookies but they are not a threat as they do not contain any code and are just text files, Ccleaner will remove them all so thats not a problem, Its showing WinAntiVirus has a Registry entry so we can export that just to see what it contains then remove it and there is a Vundo file in your i386 folder which needs removing.

Regarding Quicktime, If that line shows in the log it usually means the QuickTime icon will show in the system tray but its not a problem if it does, Its just the icon doesnt do anything useful so it can be removed from startup. If you dont see the icon then this setting may of already been changed but you can get to the same Quicktime option area by going to Start Menu > Control Panel > Quicktime. Goto the Advanced tab and Uncheck the 'Install Quicktime Icon In System Tray' box then press Apply and OK.

Download the attached file (LyjunFileCheck.zip) to your desktop, right click and choose Extract All then double click RunThis.bat to start the script, You will just notice cmd screen open then close and two text files appear in the LyjunFileCheck folder (Export.txt & Files.txt) if it can find the entries. It will export the 'WINANTIVIRUS PRO 2006' Software key and save that into export.txt then check the i386 folder for the Vundo file and save that to files.txt. If one of the text files do not show then its because it couldnt find the file or reg entry.

Can you post back both files after running the script.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Lyjun

Hope you had a fun Vacation :)

Vundo sometimes stores backups spelt backwards which you can see in the original Vundofix tool results so the script was checking for anything in that folder named sstqn or nqtss. Its good to see it only found the one dll file so it looks like Vundofix removed the infection and this is just a leftover file. I added another script (LyjunFix.zip) that will remove the file and the Win AntiVirus registry key to save you searching for them. Extract and double click Lyjunfix.bat to run the script, it will only take afew seconds then open notepad showing if it found the files and if either remain after it tries to delete them.

Can you then download and install Ewido Anti-Malware and run a full scan to make sure there is no other problems on your pc.

Download Ewido from HERE

When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard . Click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button. After the update finishes from the main menu click on scanner then click Complete System Scan , If ewido finds something, it will pop up a notification. Select Remove and check the boxes Perform action with all infections and Create encrypted backup then click on ok. When the scan finishes, click on Save Report and save it to your desktop or c:/drive, post back the results if it detects any malware (except cookies).

Its also worth installing SpywareBlaster as that adds alot of malicious sites to the restricted zone so they cannot download files or run exploits on your pc, it also blocks ActiveX based malware from installing.

Spywareblaster

If you have any more problems on the pc or if Ewido finds infections (except cookies) let us know.
