Please help me fast! All Word Docs overwritten by Blackworm, scans only locate Win32 Trojan General. I have performed everything you asked in general info. Here is my Hijack This file:

What do I do now? I am not really computer savvy, but I can follow directions REALLY well. This is one of 2 computers infected. I have disconnected the network prior to performing ANY of the scans or downloads. I own a small business and really need to get these computers up FAST. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have completed other procedures for other boards and have not recieved a reply after 2 days.

Hi Kelly, Welcome to the forum

I understand your concern but what makes you believe all your word documents have been overwritten with the Blackmal worm ? , Do you get a 'DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5]' when opening the files ? . I mention this because WinSoftware has recently begun popping up notices about Blackworm and redirecting users to their site showing the user needs to download WinAntivirus to fix the problem, which is a scam to sell their rogue software.

If you think all your .doc files have been over written can you get one of them (without any personal information) right click the file and choose Send To then choose Compressed (zipped) Folder , this will add a copy of the file to another area of the folder with the .doc file. Can you then send the zipped folder via email to (AndyManchesta@hotmail.com) as I'd like to check it out.

The Blackmal worm will overwrite doc files and also attempts to disable/remove any anti-virus software on the system (and does this every hour while the system is running), there is no signs of any serious infection in your log but it is clear you have had some malware issues at some stage.

The best thing we can do is to run some scanners and see whats revealed then we can take it from there.

Run Hijack This and choose Do a system scan then place checks next to these entries:

Close all open browser and other windows except for Hijack This press the Fix Checked button.

Delete this file if it still exists

c:\counter.cab


Then run some scanners: Run Ewido,

• On the left hand side of the main screen click update. Then click on Start Update.
  
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  (when its finished the status bar at the bottom will display (Update successful).
  
• Click on Scanner then click Complete System Scan ,
  
• If ewido finds something, it will pop up a notification. Select Remove and check the boxes Perform action with all infections and Create encrypted backup then click on OK.
  
• When the scan finishes, click on Save Report and save it to your desktop or c:/drive and post back the results.

Next Run Panda Activescan from Here.

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  
• Enter your Country
  
• Enter your State/Province
  
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
  
• Select either Home User or Company
  
• Click the big Scan Now button
  
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
  (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  
• When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
  
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location so you can post it back.

Please send the above two logs back but if they show any Virus infection then also run this scanner.

Run Kaspersky WebScanner

• Please go HERE and click Kaspersky Online Scanner
  
• Read and Accept the Agreement
  
• You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  
• If you see a Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the Install button.
  
• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files,
  
• When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button becomes available, please click on it.
  
• Click on the Scan Settings button, and in the next window select the Extended database, and click Ok.
  
• Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
  
• When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window.

could not save log but it did scan clean.
I emailed a doc with the data error message. I basically want to know if I have gotten rid of the virus from this computer and how I can tell. I have another computer which is also infected (networked). I don't want to connect back to the network until I know they are both clean and protected. Getting back my files would be great, but I am not going to kill myself over it.

I will check the email now and reply abit later, You should run the same scanners on your other system if that has also been infected, I think all of your .doc files are gone if this is connected to the Blackmal worm , there's also alot of other extentions that may now be corrupt like zipped files, If you think this has only recently got onto your system you could try system restore and take it back to when you know the system was clean but there's no guarantee it would help in retrieving your files, As the scanner didnt find any infected files in the system restore area its possibly worth a try . I will post back abit later after checking the file you sent.

That .doc file confirms it is the Blackmal/ Nyxem worm. All the file contains is DATA Error [47 0F 94 93 F4 K5] which is what I was hoping not to see. If you read some of the links above, alot of them will contain removal tools which is worth running even though we cannot find any trace of this infection using AV Scanners, What's worrying about this is you have got this worm but unless you have removed it using a different scanner its difficult to say where its gone, You have no obvious signs in the log and the scanners are not finding it, I suggest you run the removal tools from Symantec, F-Secure, Bitdefender or Microsoft on both systems to make sure they are now clean as this Worm overwrites the files on the 3rd day of each month so its best to be safe and run more than one removal tool.

Let me know if any detect a problems on either machine

post a Hijack This log from the second machine if you think it maybe infected.
