nedriv
Help!, I just downloaded and installed version 3.16. I have two questions. 1. Where can I find the new Option to close running browsers when cleaning? 2. When running in /auto mode from .bat file, how does Ccleaner handle open browsers? I am running XP home SP3 with all windows updates applied. Thanks, Ed
Dch48
A window pops up saying you need to close the browser. That is, if you're not using IE. It doesn't work with IE and proceeds to clean without closing it down. Either it's a bug in CCleaner or IE9 is so good it doesn't have to be shut down. I prefer to think the latter :-)
Moderators Nergal Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 28, 2012 CCleaner or IE9 is so good it doesn't have to be shut down. I prefer to think the latter :-) CCleaner uses IE's/Internet Options built in cleaner that's why it dfoesn't have to be closed ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF. Do your Registry Cleaning in small bits (at the very least Check-mark by Check-mark) ALWAYS BACKUP THE ENTRY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'LL BREAK IF YOU DON'T. Super Fast
CCleaner uses IE's/Internet Options built in cleaner that's why it dfoesn't have to be closed This raises a really good question of, since CCleaner can do this for IE, why not for Firefox? Wouldn't it just be better to use the inbuilt cleaning function of Firefox in CCleaner so the browser can remain open, as also can IE, without having that please close browser message pop up? Added benefit is, that it would work with all versions of Firefox, so no need to "constantly update" the "filters" to match new Firefox versions, since Firefox would take care of things, just running under CCleaner interface to do so, _____ Benefits: * Fewer error messages * Less confusion for newbies * Less annoyance for advanced * Browser doesn't have to be restarted if your in the middle of important research while cleaning * CCleaner ini file can be reduced in size, since it doesn't have to "support" so many versions of firefox (see below) * CCleaner doesn't have to update the filters, since it just uses the firefox call to do so, leaving more time for improvement/bug fixes/other program updates that do require filters
Moderators Nergal Posted February 28, 2012 Moderators Share Posted February 28, 2012 because firefox doesn't expose those api in the same way. & because firefox uses a single file for all cookies, all history or all caches. ie uses separate files (each cookie is an individual txt document) it's not a doesn't do something it's a can't do something ADVICE FOR USING CCleaner'S REGISTRY INTEGRITY SECTION DON'T JUST CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT'S CHECKED OFF.
