I got a new computer, and among the first programs to be installed were Adaware, Spybot and CounterSpy, plus all the latest updates for WinXP and Norton Internet Security. All these programs, as well as a scanning version of Webroot, tell me my new computer is squeaky clean. I also now run SpywareBlaster, as per the advice of this forum.

Horror of horrors, then, I went into Regedit, and did a FIND for words such as "casino", "porn",

Under internet settings/zonemap/domains and internet settings/p3p/history -- there are literally several hundred spyware domains.

Since I've installed my new computer, the above anti-spyware programs have not detected any spyware, so what is going on here?

Also, I have not visited any naughty sites with this computer, so I am bewildered.

Any ideas?

Actually, I've discovered the answer. In Internet Explorer's Privacy settings, all these domain names are stipulated as "Always Block". Hence, one of my security programs (probably Norton) must have added this this as a block list. hence, it appears as if everything is ok javascript:emoticon(':D')

I hate gambling!

If you plan to goto the naughty sites, you must use firefox, because else your computer will be full of trash before you can even say trash!

And remember for those websites, you must disable Java, JavaScript, ActiveX and all kinds of that stuff!

The "only load images from the originate site" option is also useful.

If you dont want anyone to know that you been on that site, with Firefox 1.5 you can use the "privacy cleaner" thing from the Tools menu.

you know with all those gambling sites you can rack up huge debts but you really dont have to pay them back, you are not held by any contract to pay them back cuz its the internet. So you can walk away from like a 1000 dollar debt, but the thing is you are blocked from their site and any of there partners.

Hey! lol, don't take me for one of those people  I'm a trustful guy when it comes to computers and what not. When a guy comes in and ask me to fix his computer, then later on I find he has all this spyware and junk and I get it fixed and get money out of it

I never said you were a lier. Just don't say anything to make me think otherwise and I will trust what you post.

I clean/fix up pcs all the time for friends, neighbors, family members, ect. I dont charge for it though unless the person offers to pay me. If I decide to create a career in computers then I will charge for my services.(I have spent days fixing a computer and not gotten a cent for it.)

lol, Hey! I'm the same. But that one guy wanted to pay me so... I got money either way. I also help out my family and friends out. but when it come to fixing a Network problem then I'm kinda not the guy you would want to call. But hey! I try right?

I'm just good in the hardware side and a little of the software side.

Under internet settings/zonemap/domains dont be suprized if you see hundreds of the XXX type sites in there you can delete the whole folder if you like but then go back to your spyware program like Spyware Blaster and click on enable all protections go back and check again and you will see the Domain folder is there again with all the very same XXX sites in it. This is just where your spyware program stores all it protection domain names.
