I seem to be having registry problems. After cleaning the registry (with more than one cleaner) there are listed entries that I cannot clean because I have insufficent permissions. If I manually give myself permission to delete these entries (and do so manually via regedit) than my system fails to log my in after a reboot; I am logged in for about a second and then instantly logged back out.

I have been having problems with my icons. I tried to apply a custom set (via StyleXP). Some icons to change, but the defailt folder icons does not. So I thought that it might be the registry that was preventing my icon application. Then I ran in to the above problem.

Your profile could be messed up; it could be recoverable or possibly not if it's too messed up.

What I did when I ran into problems on my previous WinXP install was to create a new profile to trace what some registry editing changes did, and then I copied those changes into my profile to fix it.
Complexity of incoherent design.
