Hi,

I am running defraggler on two identical machines running XP sp3 with the swap file turned off and the hibernation disabled so I can eventually generate a contiguous swap file.

On one machine, it works like a charm. But on the other, after moving a few files, it crashes every time. I found discussion about the debug mode, and have included it here for your reference.

Btw, I downloaded this yesterday, so it should be the current version and debug mode confirmed that.

I was having some hanging / crashing issues with defraggler a little while ago as well, the issue was related to a problem file on one of my drives that was on a bad sector, and thus, could not be moved. This file also caused explorer to hang every time i attempted to read it.

Ran chkdsk /r on the volume, let it make some corrects, and the issue was solved.

I would suggest scheduling chkdsk on the drive to make sure there aren't any underlying hardware issues.

1. Start
2. Run
3. cmd
4. chkdsk c: /r
5. Don't lock handles
6. Scan after reboot
7. Reboot computer

Thanks Ramzy. I should have thought of that myself! But I have seen some products just choke when the swap file has been removed, so I wanted to make sure that this was not the case here and hence the debug log.

I'll fire up that machine and see what I can find with it.

Well, I couldn't remember which of the two machines I was having problems with, so I fired them both up. At this point, the swap files have been recreated. I then ran defraggler on both of them without any problems.

The only difference I can see between the crash and now is that the swapfile has been recreated and the hiberfil.sys file has been reactivated.

It's not an issue for me at this point, but something was going on for sure.

Rich.
