Hi, new windows7 user here, tried to clean the registry,(c cleaner) and nothing happened, it shows over 500 items to remove (first scan), I think it may be the system, or Norton
that will not let ccleaner remove the items...I did not have this problem with XP on my old PC
New PC is a Alienware M17X laptop. any help would be great, thanks.

Don't clean your Registry unless you know exactly what is each key on CCleaner's list. :-)

Most programs have robustness features on the windows platform that rewrites registry values that get removed.

Ive never found any problems with ccleaners registry cleaner. Slack developers leave cruft in the registry from an incomplete uninstall process and the way to clean this up with old uninstalled programs is to run ccleaners registry cleaner.

Its not Windows 7 thats preventing ccleaner from working I run it - you have some other binary messing with it.
