Hi everyone,

I am currently having problems with my AVG antivirus programme and when looking for help on their forums someone had suggested running CCleaner as it's a more comprehensive option that Windows Disk Cleanup. I tried to download the latest version from the website and, although the file seems to download, it won't run at all and so I can't install it.

I tried downloading it again and also tried to run a previous version but this didn't work either.

I also tried to download it using IE rather than Firefox but no luck!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong or an alternative way of running the downloaded files?

Thank you!

When you download choose to 'save' and not 'run', and save it to somewhere you can find it (my documents, desktop, or personal downloads folder)

Then go to the directory and run the file, then come back and explain any issues in detail including error messages.

Hi,

I tried to do this with Firefox but when I download it only gives the option to 'run' or 'cancel'... I also tried to right click the download and see if I could open the file location but it won't even let me do this.

With IE when I click on 'save' it comes up with a box saying it's saving the file, but then the box closes and nothing else happens at all.

Could this be related to the problems that I'm having with AVG? Could AVG be blocking CCleaner?

Thank you!

It may be an idea Claire to follow the steps here...just in case you have a virus/malware issue

Hi hazelnut,

I tried to download these files but unfortunately I've had the same problem - they will download but they won't run at all once downloaded... Obviously this is a problem with my computer as it's not just CCleaner that I am unable to run.

I must have a virus of some sort but as my AVG won't run a virus scan either at the moment I'm at a bit of a loss what to do?

You definitely need to make a topic in Spyware Hell, this sounds like a rootkit to me
