Which operating system are you using?

Have you looked in 'my documents' which is the default place that the backups are saved to just in case they are there?

I am using xp home and i did search for a probable backup but could not find one anywhere. The problem is that ccleaner automatically closes on attempting to back up registry issues.

Have you checked thoroughly for malware? Try to visit at least a couple of online scanners with the ability to remove findings. Full scans. Microsoft runs one - it's free. Remember to change language if you're not in the US:

Malware can do this. And other issues such as damaged OS files. It's not necessarily a CCleaner matter.

Running chkdsk and scannow could also be useful.

Did you have ccleaner on your machine this before Dr Anurag?

If you think that there might be even the smallest chance of malware please follow the steps here
