the install uses (comes with it)
Media Player Classic v6.4.8.4

Yes in order to play the media files. Media Player Classic looks like Windows Media Player 6.4, however it's a different animal altogether since it can play so many formats including streaming them.
Complexity of incoherent design.

you can play Real and quicktime media with any player that uses the codecs. i've done this with WMP before.
