Defraggler doesn´t run as it does at my home-computer. There i do not have any difficulties.
But with the office-pc Defraggler doesn´t work. The program starts, the program windows is opened, but befor the defragmentation window is idle, the windows message box shows: The exception "Unknown software exception (0xc000000d) has occurred at the place 0x004c674d". With that Defraggler is finished.
The pc works in a network with different admininstration rights. I have theright to administrate my pc by myself. What can I do to use Defraggler?
error code: unknown software exception

You can run Defraggler in debug mode which will create a debug log. You can then upload that log as an attachment to the forums for the developers to look at.

I'm getting the same error as above. I've attached my debug log. I can still defrag my disk as long as I don't ok the error message. As soon as I do the application closes.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Hi:
It appears to be due to the online version check (which would probably make some corporate firewalls puke...)
while the exception dialog is still on the screen, move it aside and select Settings/Options from the Defraggler menu and then unselect the "Automatically check for updates to defraggler" box and hit ok. Then, allow the program to close/crash as normal, when you restart it it should be ok.
At least, it did for me. YMMV.
Good luck!

Hi Jonathon, and welcome to Piriform.
I'm posting only to say I hope your fix works for others, and it may also be of help to the developers. It's good of you to take the trouble to post your findings.

No worries.
It just occurred to me after reading the messages above mine that if the program still worked, it must be something external to the defrag engine. Since CCleaner didn't have the same problem, and it allows you to turn off the update check during install, I put 2 and 2 together and (somehow) got 4.
Put me in the camp, though, for asking for a turnoff option in the installer...
Thanks!

Hi,
Can you check if you have the same issue with other products: CCleaner and Recuva?
Best regards

Hi, Romanoff:
I did test the latest version of both apps with the corporate LAN (CCleaner 2.23.999 and Recuva 1.30.435)
It appears as though they use a different update scheme. First, they allow the installer to disable checking for new versions during the install process. Also, even if you leave the checking enabled during the install, they simply open up a webpage if you ask it to check for new versions.
The version check doesn't work that I know of - (my corporation blocks FileHippo as a download site... Don't even get me started on that :-( ) but it doesn't generate an unhandled exception, either.
My recommendation would be to implement the Defraggler update check mechanism as closely to the other two as is possible given their software architectures.
If you have any other questions, just let me know.
Thanks!
-Jon
