Hello all,
I downloaded and installed "defraggler" last night. I have installed it on all three of my Windows Vista computers.
Two of them defrag completely, but one of them finishes with it saying 52% fragmented.
I have defragged all of them in "free space", and in "safe" mode, and ticked "move large files to the end", but the one computer gives the
message "defrag complete", but says 52% fragmented, and is showing lots of Red files in the legend.
All of my computers are of similar specifcation.
Thank you
Jack

What are the fragmented files ?
pagefile.sys ?
hiberfile.sys ?
C:\System Volume Information\ files, a.k.a. System Restore points ?
Files from your antivirus ? (Maybe it has a self-protection)

The more software I put in, the more fragmented it becomes.
I have a 320gig hard drive with loads of free space.
I just installed "spybot", and now in the file list after de-fragging there are spybot files it will not defrag.
There are lots of Adobe files in the list too, which will not defrag.
The complete list is far too much to type here.

I have just installed the latest vesion on Auslogics defragment tool.
I have run it, and in the detailed report it lists virtually the same amount as not defragged.
It appears that both applications will not defrag certain system files, and I must live with it.
I will check back her from time to time.
Many thanks for the reply.

If you have Peer Guardian, you will want to remove it's history file. For some reason, it is undefragmentable. You can set CCleaner to delete it every time you run it.
I also suggest running Windows Disk Cleanup for getting rid of a few pesky files it might not be able to defragment.
